Insight and Implementation
I have just finished listening to this book on Audible and reading it in tandem.I am 82 years old, with a doctorate in clinical psychology and both certified to practice and qualified to teach clinical hypnosis. I first heard of Joe Dispenza at the time of the “What’s the Bleep …” presentations, and was intrigued by his part in this. I have done most everything that self-seekers do - seminars, trainings, many books and, most recently, reading books about biology and neurobiology. I have experienced the influence of many wise people like Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Bruce Lipton and Candice Pert. At this stage in my life, nearing its end, I wanted to take one more try at changing myself.I think Joe Dispenza’s 2013 writing may be kicking me into purposeful action. His perspective in the early chapters captures most of the good sense and research findings in my earlier exposures and adds to this some sensible advice on implementation - not an arduous process but a very sensible approach to undoing some of my past failures and overcoming a long life of building a self-defeating personality. As Dispenza says in the afterword to his book “Your attention is where your energy is. Put all of your attention on the external, material world, and that becomes your investment in reality. On the contrary, command your mindfulness to unfold a deeper aspect of yourself, and your energy will expand that reality. You as a human being have the freedom to place your awareness on anything. To develop your ability to manage and properly use this abundance of power is a gift. Wherever you put thoughts and awareness becomes your reality”. His book lays out in a very comfortable way the research findings and collected wisdom that lead to this truth.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself
I could write my own book about the many reasons why anyone with a human brain and body - and a desire to be happy - should read this groundbreaking book. Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself is "the manual" for those who want to live a truly empowered life. Combining the fields of quantum physics, neuroscience, biology, and genetics, Dr. Joe Dispenza bridges the gap between science and spirituality as he masterfully teaches his readers how to create change and a new reality for oneself. Why is this important to understand and implement? Because by the time you reach the age of 35, Dr. Dispenza shares in his book, you've memorized your own set of behaviors, emotional reactions, and thought patterns that have become 95% of your identity, which means 95% of who you are BEING is sub-conscious and automatic! By repeating the same thoughts and actions every day after day, "we begin to hard wire our brain into very specific patterns that reflect our external world." We're most often not even aware that we've developed habits for everything. As the saying goes, we ARE creatures of habit. So, most will imagine a great vision, dream or objective, only to be sidetracked by the habits they've developed that limit their true greatness along with their beloved dream. With only 5% of us that is consciously aware, how do we become - as Dr. Dispenza points out - the divine creators we are capable of being? This book brilliantly teaches us that "the greatest habit we have to break is the habit of being ourselves." In order to change and consciously create, we have to think beyond, think greater than the environment and conditions in our lives.Shortly after reading this book I was discussing it with a successful, young woman who struggles with the hectic schedule of being a working mom. She heard the title and said, "Sounds interesting, but what if I like myself? Why would I want to change being myself?" I asked her if she ever worried about her kids or felt stressed with her overbearing schedule. "All the time." she said. "Worry, guilt, stress... doesn't that just come with the territory of motherhood and work?" Wow, I thought. I used to think that way too! That's the fallacy we've been led to believe: that worry, fear, resentment, anxiety and all those survival emotions that create chronic stress in our lives are normal. Not only are they NOT normal, they are making us - and our world - chronically ill. As a result, we are seeing breakdown in systems across the board - incoherence in our bodies, our families, communities, and our world. It's time for conscious change because the truth is, we are so much more than we know. We are multidimensional beings, powerful beyond measure, here to be conscious creators. Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself gives us leading edge science revealing the inherent power in each of us to consciously harness the mind (thoughts) and body (feelings) to change our brains, thus creating a new state of Being to affect our external world. The tools for change and the science behind them are stunning as well. The book "demystifies the mystical," teaching the use of meditation to become aware of how thoughts and emotions are functioning-- how a person can see past their mental programming, and identify as the consciousness observing the program. Meditation, we learn, is the unlearning process-- its purpose is to become aware of the old self, those aspects of our selves we want to change by going into the operating system of those subconscious programs and bringing them into our conscious awareness so that we have dominion over them. This book is a masterpiece and an evolutionary eye-opener for anyone, old, young, and in between. The science is breath-taking. Dr. Dispenza's teaching style, genius. Is there something you want for your life, for the world? Greater happiness, love, abundance, more time with loved ones, better health and self care? How about creating new, desired habits for a balanced world at peace? You have the hardware - your brain, your body, and the freedom to place your awareness on anything you want if you know how. The newest science tells us that we absolutely have the power! I recommend you embrace this book, fall in love with its knowledge, repeat what you've learned over and over, follow its four-week program for fundamental change, and get ready for a new you and new life beyond your wildest imaginings!!

A powerful blueprint for personal transformation
Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself isn’t just a book—it’s a wake-up call. Dr. Joe Dispenza combines science, psychology, and spirituality in a way that’s both accessible and deeply transformative. He doesn’t just tell you why you feel stuck—he shows you how to break free. What stood out most to me was the clarity with which he explains how our thoughts shape our reality—and how we can rewire our minds through meditation and intentional focus. His work bridges neuroscience and personal growth, giving readers the tools to shift from living in the past to creating a meaningful future. If you’re ready to step out of your old patterns and into a more empowered version of yourself, this book is a must-read. But be warned—it’s not passive reading. It invites you to do the work, and if you’re willing, the results can be life-changing.
