Worth Your Penny
This is an awesome buy. I got this about a month or two back from amazon and presently i am using this with my Nikon D3300.It is worth every penny and the sellers did a good job of providing regular updates with the delivery and a decent packaging as well. The best part is the add ons - a hood, the caps, a bag, just no room complaints here.Frankly, being a new D-SLR user, I expected a higher level of zoom at 200mm, but the clarify it provides at the full zoom levels clearly stands out. Also even if you are using this as a prime lens (though note : you would need at least 5-6 feet for a focus), it does its job very well. There were several others cheaper options like tamron 300mm & even a Nikon 200 mm at much lower costs BUT they DO NOT have VR that it is specifically for that reason you should pay little extra and buy this. I use this at full zoom with a tripod ever and the results are good.Low light, portraits and macro (using a cheap 250 Rs screw-in lens) are equally promising. The only ask is probably a faster delivery a metro city (central area) delivery took around 10-12 days.

A good lens, specially at this price.
Overall it is a nice lens at such a low price. It wont disappoint you until you are not looking for a perfect experience.Pros:1) Price: i got it for 7300 under cash back scheme (even @8500 it is a worth buy)2) Quality: you can get good result, but you have to use tripod.3) light weight4) easy to carry.5) has AFS and VR (at this price)Cons:1) Average VR: VR is not upto the mark, even a slight shake (bare minimum) will leave you with a blur pic or loss of detail at zoom. see attached images i had to take 10 pics just to make text readable (shutter 1/60) at 200 mm,2) Soft image: at greater / lower mm the image becomes soft. its not sharp as it should have been.Points that i disagree (as written in other reviews):1) Many reviews says that it is a plastic body and is very much inferior as compared to 18-55 mm, but i didn't find much difference except focus and VR button.2) auto focus decent and is not that slow as mentioned in other reviews.Points that i agree ( as written in many other reviews)1) Not for bird photography.2) Noise while auto focusing, it is not loud but could have been better. You wont be disappointed with this lens, but would not be amazed too.

Great lens at a great price
I have a basic DSLR (Nikon D40) that came with the basic kit lens (18-55mm). I had been wanting a tele zoom lens for sometime now. There were many options like the 70-300mm lens from Nikon and the Manual focus lenses from Sigma and Tamron. Since I was quite lean on my budget, and wanted the optics quality of Nikon, I narrowed down on the 55-200mm VR lens. My main aim of using this lens is for portraits and bird photography. This lens does a perfect job of both! Check out Ken Rockwell's review of this lens. This was one of the main factors that made me go in for the lens.If your purchase criteria are 1)budget lens 2)great optics 3)first tele zoom lens 4) bird and portrait photography 5) A VR lens => then this is a perfect lens. The compromise is the plastic quality. It is definitely inferior to my 18-55mm kit lens. But then, you can't expect everything!Amazon's delivery was on time and the seller (Techno Mart) answered some questions I had on the lens. So 5/5 there.I would definitely recommend this lens.

Good value for money
My 2 cents.I had this lens saved in my cart for over a fortnight. Having seen the price fluctuate, I was waiting for it to fall and I am happy I picked it up when it was c.Rs.7600. So I strongly suggest you keep checking the prices frequently.Product review. It's a great lens. It picks up where my 18-55 ends and does a pretty good job. I did study the other reviews and found users being dismal about the 'plastic' build quite strange, I didn't feel the stark difference in holding my kit and my 55-200. It captures light and shadows very well. I live on the 14th floor and can manage to get a crisp shot of cars on the road. It has a good potential for zooming. The only con is that while shooting objects under low light, the auto-focus takes time.If you are a student of photography and / or you want a good VFM lens, I would strongly suggest you buy this.

A great lens at the price point but the newer VR II is also available
I ordered a VR lens but received a VR II lens minus the lens case and the lens hood. So the following review is for the VR II lens.A superb light weight lens with great performance. The lens is collapse-able when not in use and hence is very handy. It is easier to carry than other costly options and is quite responsive. The images are sharp and clear. VR works great and the lens can be used without a tripod. Zooming is precise and well spaced. The only downside is that its not a great lens for wildlife photography but who is complaining for such a good lens at this price. One of the major differences between VR and VR II is the size and weight.

Good lens which serves it's purpose
For the price it's a nice lens. You will be able to take some good long range shots. But here's a little something that beginners who are buying this lens for it's function in such a low price range, should know. It works at f/4 to 5.6. This means that the aperture of the lens is very small. Therefore, it won't function so well in low light as much as it does in bright light. Also you will not get as much depth of field effect in you shots if you intend to buy this for shooting such pictures. Unless your subject is standing far away from the BG, depth of field is not something that you can achieve easily with this lens.Having said that, it's a good lens for the purpose that it serves. I get good long range shots in broad day light. When I need some really good depth of field in my pictures, I switch to my prime lens but of course, you end up sacrificing the long range.
