Idk how it started, but I seem to have a "thing" for kettles, and have more than I'd care to admit. As each of my kids leaves home, the first thing they'd take was one of my kettles. They use them to make coffee, tea, mashed potatoes, and ramen noodles in their dorm. I love cooking and canning, and have found so many uses for this kettle. It's nice to look at, easy to use....even in the dark, and cuts time and valuable prep space when canning. Also great at sterilizing utensils and jars. I like the weight of it....doesn't feel flimsy or will easily tip over like other kettles when the cord gets bent/twisted. The "keep warm" feature is convenient too. Bottom line, this is my new favorite kettle due to it's size and different temp settings for making various tea blends. If you're on a budget and only need it to boil water, this would be an overkill, IMO. Lots of much cheaper alternatives on here for that. However, if you find the temp and keep warm options helpful, this is a solid piece of equipment I highly recommend.

We bought this water boiler five years ago and just threw it out today. That's a pretty decent run considering we used it multiple times per day. I like the different temperature settings, and it heats up water pretty quickly. The only major negatives other than it breaking after five years or that the bottom ended up getting stained pretty quickly, and I'm not really sure why because I only used water in it

I love this kettle. It's very attractive, it's very easy to use, it heats quickly (1.7 liters of room temperature water to a boil in about 7 minutes), and those temperature settings really do matter. It's well insulated so it tends to hold heat well even without the 30-minute stay-warm timer turned on.I drink French press coffee and green tea, so this kettle gets used a lot (at least twice a day), and I can attest to the difference that the various temperature settings make. 200 degrees makes for wonderful French press coffee, and 175 takes the "bite" out of green tea while preserving all the delicate flavors. Although I typically only use those two settings, they are REALLY nice to have.You can't get your hand inside this kettle, but then again you shouldn't have to. The sight glass is pretty much covered by your hand on the handle when you are filling the kettle. I think that's an acceptable design compromise and not an issue as a practical matter. I use the time-tested method of looking inside as I am filling the kettle to see how full it is getting. The sight glass *looks* great - it is illuminated along with the buttons on the handle - and it is easy to read when your hand is not wrapped around the handle so you can tell if you need to add water before hitting the start button. That's all I need from a sight glass.Ease of use is excellent - one handed operation in a dimly lit room is a snap. Thumb the desired temperature, thumb the start button. Soon you will hear 3 beeps (audible without being annoying) that let you know that set point has been reached. Aside from the beeps, the light on the temperature select button goes from blinking (heating) to solid (at set point temp).This kettle draws 1500W, so be mindful of what circuit it is plugged into and what else is on that circuit. Also consider whether you need to heat a full kettle for a cup of tea. The less water you heat, the faster it gets to set point temp and the lower your power consumption.There is a removable fine screen filter in the spout - I found it made pouring tricky and I removed it.All in all, this kettle has worked its way into my everyday routine in a way that no other kitchen appliance has (and I have quite a few). If and when it dies, I'll replace it with an identical unit. I'm more than pleased with it. It looks great, works great and is easy to use.I would recommend this kettle unconditionally were it not for the 1- and 2-star ratings that reveal a high manufacturing defect rate. I suggest reading those reviews. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the nagging fear that the kettle will fail in normal use. Cuisinart really should take a look at the manufacturing defect rate on this product. It has a nasty tendency to cease working. Some report failure not only in the kettle received, and also in the REPLACEMENT that was sent to address the first failure. That's a clear red flag ... but I was prepared to take the risk in light of the features offered for the price. Hopefully I won't be revisiting my rating on a product failure.
