This is false advertising at it's finest. All this instrument does, is produce a large amount of white noise along with sounds that you're suppose to hear, but cannot over the cacophony of something that sounds like a wind storm. Returned for refund.

This worked very nicely. It was weird hearing some faraway sounds pretty clear. Would recommend.

I haven't tested these at the range but they seem to work for loud sharp pops or claps. The "mild compression circuit" only insulates against a very sharp pop. These are better as hearing aids as there's no upper limit in decibels it'll allow. If you want an upper cutoff in decibels, look for game ears that have a "Sound Activated Compression" (SAC) circuit. The ones i found with a SAC circuit are $300. If you want a SAC circuit without the expense, look at the muffs for about $60.
