Works great and improve an already excellent espresso maker. But know what you're buying...
I think a lot of negative reviews of this product are due to the buyer being confused about what they're purchasing. To be crystal clear: This is a larger water tank, an espresso cup, and an adapter to connect them together into one convenient tube for storage and transport. The espresso maker itself is not included! This item is compatible with the Minipresso GR, NS, and CA.Okay, assuming you bought what you meant to buy... The tank works great. I have not had issues with over-/under-tightening or leakage that others have mentioned. In fact, mine has a stop that allows me to tighten it properly by turning it until it won't turn anymore. Maybe that's a new feature, I don't know, but mine has it.There are a couple of advantages to the Tank+.First, you can make a larger espresso. A regular shot of espresso is only one fluid ounce (about 30ml). The Tank+ allows you to make about double that, maybe a little more. Now, with the same amount of coffee that obviously means that the espresso will be weaker. This is called an "espresso lungo". If you want your espresso full strength, you can simply install new coffee after you've pumped about half of the water out to make an "espresso doppio". If you have the Minipresso GR, you'll to buy an extra basket to make this change quickly. On that account, the Minipresso NS and CA models are superior IMO.The second advantage is even better IMO. One valid knock against the Minipresso is that the water cools down rapidly resulting in suboptimal temperature. Well, the larger the volume of water, the longer it takes to cool down. So you can fill the Tank+ with boiling water, but only pump half of it out and your espresso will be hotter. (Another tip: Fill the tank and your espresso cup with hot tap water first to pre-warm them, then dump the warming water immediately before making your coffee.)I can't really think of any significant disadvantages to this, except that with the larger tank, the Minipresso won't fit into the case that Wacaco sells. But that's not a big deal to me because I use the case only when I camp or travel, and at those times I'm more interested in keeping the weight and size down rather than having extra water capacity.
