Master link may be a bit frustrating but all good
Working great for older Specialized MB had to cut a few links and the master is a bit annoying but got it in about 3 minutes

Good chain, but instructions need a rewrite.
Docking a point because the instructions on how to use the quick link were not at all clear, and I had to look it up on the internet. Other than that, good chain!

Completely fixed everything
I was in a crash and somehow my chain got bent really bad. At first I thought the derailleur was the problem because it would constantly ghost shift and it was extremely frustrating. So I just decided to get a new chain and suddenly the derailleur is working perfectly without even tuning it and it’s shifting so smoothly. The only issue I had with installation was the master link was extremely frustrating to install and I think I damaged it so I probably need to replace it. They really need to improve the design of that master link

Good chain, terrible master link
The chain is of excellent quality, the connecting master link is poorly designed, flimsy, and nearly impossible to connect. The directions are inadequate, confusing and offer little help. Even if I could connect the link, which I couldn't, I would not be confident riding with it. I had buy a standard, much better designed master link to install this chain. Why anyone at Shimano would redesign an already perfected master link is beyond me.

ONLY GOT 1,566 MILES FROM THIS CHAIN, NO PROBLEM INSTALLING THE "QUICK LINK"
I bought this chain for my Specialized MTB back in February (6 months ago). I installed new chainrings and a new cassette along with the chain, put 1,566 miles on the new drivetrain since then, lubed the chain regularly (with 3-in1 oil maybe that is my problem), ride on the street only, never got the chain wet, and was noticing a rough feeling drivetrain for around 100 miles.. So I checked the chain with a chain checker tool and the chain is completely shot. I used the PARK chain checker tool on every link going all around the chain and each measurement is past .75%. Not even close. I didn't expect the HG40 chain to wear out that quickly and should have checked it sooner. My bike dealer says 1,500 miles from an inexpensive chain is not that bad bc chains are more nickel now, less steel than in the past and don't last as long as the old days. Aside from the limited mileage I got out of the HG40 chain, it NEVER felt as smooth as my new HG71 and the HG40 made noise from day one - a slight ticking noise that would come and go. Going forward I'll see how long the new HG71 lasts using ACTUAL bicycle CHAIN LUBE - I've been using FINISH LINE "WET". All I can say is the HG71 feels much smoother than the HG40 did when new, the HG71 is completely silent and shifts great. An improvement over the HG40 in my opinion and worth the extra $.
