Know before you buy
I did not know what a prebound book was so I ordered this thinking it was a full sized book. I only have myself to blame.

Vintage Cussler--bloody, profane, and not for the faint of heart or the politically correct
As with "Raise the Titanic," "Vixen 03," and Pacific Vortex," I've now read "Iceberg" three times in the past 27 years, and just like with those other vintage Cussler/Pitt novels, this one is every bit as readable, fast-paced, and damn near impossible to put down as the previous reads. And as with those other classic Cussler books, it's far bloodier and more profane and sexually-charged than the more tepid PG-level books that Clive has written since the early 1990s (particularly the ones ghost-written by his son Dirk). WARNING (SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!!!): this book is not for the faint-of-heart or for the politically correct; the brutal beating that Pitt arbitrarily takes from main villain Oskar Rondheim roughly 2/3 ofthe way through the novel will make you cringe, Pitt's attitude toward women is decidely sexist and 1970s-era chauvinistic (and I say this as a *very* anti-PC, conservative-libertarian male), and Clive's portrayal of Pitt going undercover as a flaming effeminate homosexual would be publicly excoriated in this politically correct and hyper-sensitive day and age.All that said, not Cussler's best (as others have pointed out, Al Giordino), but still highly enjoyable, and (SPOILER ALERT AGAIN!!!) the climactic fight scene at Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean ride is deeply satisfying.P.S. to female readers: Ladies, take heart, Pitt's attitude toward women does improve in later novels (remember, "Iceberg" was first published in 1975) to the point where he treats them as equals!

Full of Suspense!
The Dirk Pitt character never fails to please the reader. Cussler builds the role of Pitt masterfully. Any of Cussler's novels never are a disappointment.

it was still a good buy.
While I wasn't really sure what the school & library edition was (smaller than normal), it was still a good buy.

Another Cussler Thriller
Cussler is again the master of suspense in "Iceberg". There is plenty of action throughout this book and I was always surprised by the next sequence of events. Although most of Cussler's books have some element of historical truth, this one appears to be completely fictional. It is face paced and hard to put down once you start reading it. Most enjoyable reading for any Cussler fan!!

Okay
Because it's one of the author's first novels, and because it was written in the '70s, I will forgive the terrible sexism in this book. It was interesting to note the evolution of his books.
