Perfect for small children
Beautifully illustrated in the style of the cover image of the calico cat, each page features a unique mammal mama with her nurslings. The first page has a human mama nursing her baby in bed, papa sleeping beside them, as the sun dawns through the window. "Cuddle little baby warm and tight, Mama's going to feed you day and night," it reads, with its accompanying Spanish translation. The book names each animal and their young in English and Spanish. Each page contains a short rhyming line or couplet - perfect for any age! Mammals featured are: seal, pig, horse, monkey, elephant, bat, otter, platypus, kangaroo, armadillo, coyote, whale, dolphin, bear, raccoon, hamster, cat, and human. Included are everyday life illustrations of mothers nursing or feeding their babies at the park, a father with his son and their hamsters, a mother wearing her baby in a sling, and a breastfeeding mama snoozing in a chair with her infant. On the last two pages are the thumbnail images from each page with interesting facts about each, such as, "kangaroo milk is pink." The book contains 23 pages of text.I got this book in paperback together with the Nursing Nina Cat for my two-year old nursling on her 2nd birthday, and I am very pleased. She is fascinated with baby animals, especially cats. The combination gift was perfect, as she played with the Nina Cat and kittens while I read to her. She asked me to read it over and over again and thoroughly soaked up the information and pictures of the baby animals. My older daughter (age 8), who was also nursed as a baby, also enjoyed reading this book and learning about the different baby animals. She is learning Spanish. My ten-year old son notes it is a good book to teach small children about breastfeeding in a sweet and interesting way. This book can also be a source of inspiration and affirmation to mothers and fathers who choose to offer this amazing gift of love to their children.Another book that would compliment this combination nicely is, "I Love You As Much," by Laura Krauss Melmed.

Sweet book!
I bought this book to help normalize breastfeeding for my youngest child who will not grow up regularly seeing mama nurse other children. We have several books with Ashley Wolff's wonderful animal illustrations, and this one is no different. She met the challenge of depicting nursing animals (and mamas!) without making them cartoonish or shameful.

Mama and toddler approved!
I got this book and loved the beautiful words and lovely illustrations. My 16 month old nursling loves this book as well and usually ends up nursing herself by the end of it. When I finish the book she signs for "more" which is her way of asking me to read it again and again. One time I had to of read it at least 12 times in a row!!! I have patience to read it multiple times like that, but also this book is truly that lovely and easy to deal with reading over and over and over as an adult. I highly recommend it for mothers nursing beyond infancy, as well as mothers expecting a new baby with older siblings. The facts are overflowing with animal names (Platypus babies are called puggles. did not know that!) and interesting nursing facts (Foals nurse every thirty minutes!) so it is an amazing teaching tool in that way. Plus, it shows how biologically normal breastfeeding is and a diverse selection of mothers (Not just white women.)Last but not least, there are two pages that have a daddy in it (One is a cosleeping picture with mama nursing and daddy sleeping next to her. The other is a daddy holding his son as they watch a mama hamster nursing her babies.) which is always a cute touch and my daughter (A total daddy's girl) points out the daddy every time because it is special to her and she enjoys books with daddies too. All in all a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.

I bought this for my nieces. The older one -- 6 -- reads it to the younger one. They both love it.

Helps toddlers
Helped my toddler understand that mamas feed bodies milk from the body as my child was almost 4, and i she had never been exposed in her memory. This was a book i used to help explain what she would be seeing once sibling was born.

Needs to be a board book for the intended age group
This is a super cute book, but it's unfortunate that it's not a board book. The age group that this is suited for really needs it to be a board book. By the time my daughter is old enough to not rip paper pages, she won't be nursing anymore, and this book won't appeal to her as much. I bought it along with the Nina Nursing Cat available on Amazon. It's a stuffed cat with three kittens that nurse from their mama (attached with magnets in the mama cat's nipples and the kittens' mouths). It's so sweet and looks almost exactly like the cover of this book- they should be sold together, really. Anyway, I thought I'd read this book as she held her kittens, but because this isn't a board book I hardly ever get it out for her to see. Such a shame.

best book that shows nursing i've seen so far.
Mama's Milk depicts a variety of mammals with their young, and has lots of information while maintaining a simple non-preachy narrative.I learned new things (kangaroos make pink milk, baby platypi are called puggles) and the children that have looked at it with me were happy to look at the baby animals.my son is still very tiny, but i look forward to continuing to read this with him and to us enjoying the pictures of happy families nursing. Nursing is a big part of our bonding, and so few books reflect what a beautiful, loving, natural activity it is.example of text, "Cuddle little baby warm and tight Mama's going to feed you day and night [illustration of a human mother nursing in bed]/She'll fatten you up in a sunny pig sty [illustration of cute piglets with happy looking sow] She'll grow you up strong under the morning sky [mare and foal]" it goes on to show all kinds of nursing mamas and babies, from whales to coyotes, elephants, and bats.i just wish i could afford to buy copies for all the nursing moms i know.
