Typical Jim Thompson Novel. A Worthwhile Read!
Excellent probe into the consciousness of the main character. The use of sexual violence strewn with unchecked human desire, the bond of family and land, and crafty use of derogatory language is spun throughout this backdrop of an untamed rugged Oklahoma Territory of the late 19th century. Not quite the thriller that " The Killer Inside Me" is, but the panoply of characters is better developed. It is a shame that Thompson's portfolio of novels was, like his life, cut short by personal demons.

Great new read of old book
Liked this and comparing to Mannitou of Karl May. Both great reflectors of Indian Country as the Indians were over run in America.

Another excellent Thompson
This book has only recently been re-published; while not on my top 800 Thompson list, it is still a remarkable, though somewhat melancholy (to me) product of the Great American Noir's mind.

Put on a thick skin, and delve into the harshness that is King Blood.
