Great Resource When Used With Others
This book is very helpful to me when used in combination with video tutorials on a popular video site. It's easy to follow. I wish they would have posted pictures of the chords you've just learned on the song page so flipping back and forth isn't needed. I forget new chords quickly and having them on the same page would be better. They do that later on the book when songs are more complicated, though. I guess it's just me...haha. Good resource for me.

If you like to read about playing, this is the book for YOU. If you want to play, keep looking........
The chords needed for the songs (there are not many songs at all) should be pictured next to the sheet music for an easier learning experience.

I have been playing for about six months and I enjoy the simple way this book explains how cords fit ...
If you are just starting with ukulele and don't know a lot about music you might want to wait a bit before getting this book. It might have a little too much info if you just want to learn a few cords and play some simple songs.I have been playing for about six months and I enjoy the simple way this book explains how cords fit together. How minor cords can sound sad and major more up beat. The alternative tunings of the ukulele and why you might want to try them. This is a beginner book and I do recommend it. Also add a simple ukulele song book if you're just starting out.

Contents are good but paper quality isn't
This is a good book for learning the ukulele but ....as someone else posted, the paper is very light weight and between my wife and I looking through it often, I feel that the paper is not going to last. Too bad, I have some other " for Dummies" books from years ago and those books are a lot heavier weight paper and are still in very good condition considering they have been handled often by my entire family and friends.

Great reference source on everything ukulele. MUST take in small bits, if absolute beginner. Woodshed is a great teacher.
More for a intermediate and advanced player, but excellent reference source. If you are seriously committed it will get you where you want to be an an ukulele player. It does have everything there, but it might be hard / a lot to digest for a absolute beginner. Great book overall. Use this book in small bits, don't just jump into the deep end of the swimming pool without learning to tread water and holding on to the side.

Helps all levels
Mainly use this for the different strumming patterns and combo finger picking and strumming. Very helpful. Only thing is it would be nice if the explanation was always on same page as the figure picture or music. Sometimes need to flip the page and go back and forth to understand the subject.

Excellent
As with the other For Dummies books that I've read, this is an excellent "primer" for learning the basics and fundamentals for learning ukulele. Lots of good information.

A Great Book To Learn Ukulele!
This book is great. I really wanted to learn ukulele but did not want to pay for lessons or anything like that. For the price its a great book to learn from and for helpful tips and answers to your questions that you may not know where to find the answer. This book has everything you could ever need to know about ukulele

Sent it straight back.
This should be called Professional Ukulele Playing for the Not So Dumb. The 1st thing this book suggested I do was to buy Reading Music for Dummies, it is full of sheet music. It then told me to go Online to listen to this and that, have been doing that already, I wanted a book! Then came a list of indispensable APPS for my mobile, I don't have a fancy phone. Sent it straight back. At the moment I'm learning chords from a ukulele chord dictionary, far more helpful for now.

Great for beginners and beyond
This is an excellent book - so much better than the usual 40 page ukulele tutors. It is well written, easy to understand, interesting and full of information. It has got everything: strumming chords, finger picking, techniques, different music styles, changing strings, and much more.I have been learning for about 4 weeks and I am really chuffed with myself. I started on a cheapo soprano and had to buy myself a Kala Concert and now I sound even better. On only about 20 minutes practise a night.Don't mess about with other tutor books - this will really give you a great start and most likely keep you going a lot further.

Great book for right-handed players, less so for lefties
This would be a 5-star book if there existed a version of it specifically for left-handed players - the chord charts are very confusing if you're a left-handed beginner (I had to print out a separate set from the internet and use those instead). To the author's credit, left-handers do at least get a mention towards the start of the book but the advice for reading chord charts (imagine the neck as transparent/mirror image) wasn't helpful. There's a real lack of resources for left-handed players (we're not that rare!) generally, which is disappointing.

a Brilliant book I love it
a Brilliant book I love it. It is soooo easy to follow. I am an absolute beginner and I find this book ideal, easy to understand and the illustrations help me to place my fingers correctly on the strings. The technical information hits just the right note for me. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn the Uke.

Dementia aid
I bought my husband this to go with the Ukulele for his birthday, to help him retain some memories due to his Alzheimer's. And do you know what, it does help him.
