The perfect starter lathe. I wanted a unit with variable speed, but didn't want to break the bank. This is a great starter combo. I have turned quite a few pieces and feel it was a nice upgrade over what I would have got with a harbor freight lathe.I bought this for $588 dollars and I probably wouldn't have paid any more than that. This won't have the same quality as a Jet 1015VS which is $599 just for the lathe. If you have a bit extra money I would highly suggest the Jet lathe, but the Nova still a great unit, and I am surprised to see how many YouTube turner's started with it.The tools are cute ... they are border line on almost being to small to be useful for anything other then small spindle work such as pens. I am not a big guy but the tools can be hard to control because of their delicate size.All in all a great budget friendly package. I will probably replace the tools first. If you have more money for your first lathe there are better options, but this isn't a bad one at all.

Really full featured for the price. Only issue, the belts are a bother to get to. they really need to rethink the belt cover latch.

this is my first lathe. after reading other reviews etc. all are spot on.all though future LARGER project may require a bigger lathe, 4 now this does everything I needas in other reviews I highly recomend this lathe
