Sweeney!

What can I say, well 1st of all the blue ray transfer is excellent, if you do not believe me just check out the trailer that comes with the DVDs,, 2nd watched both Sweeney movies now 1 & 2, both blue ray versions and both are amazing and not PC, but was the 70s, and that is why I love them, loved the Sweeney TV series and these are even better because the both 18 rated, and can believe it or not are even more exciting then the original TV series ( not that it was not exciting) but because they can push the boundaries with violence nudity and language, plus both have really good stories the 1st involves Regan getting involved in a conspiracy involving a murder special branch and American pulling the strings on a British politician, full of action and keeps you guessing and very exciting, do not remember seeing this film only bits of it and was very impressed, 10 out of 10 and will watch again, Sweeney 2 is my favourite seen at least 30 times and never disappoints, the music & the plot involving armed robberies carry out from Malta is a blast from start to finish, even a sub plot involving a bent cooper add the to the intrigue, can not rate these movies high enough, going to watch Regan next on blue ray to see where it all started, and then back to my Sweeney Box set,

Husband’s favourite film

I had this on DVD, but lost it. I was hesitant to buy it on blueray, as most old films on blueray are not any better than the DVD, but this one is, you even get the old cinema style certification. So go for the blueray.

This is a very good film. Whilst not completely abandoning the blaggers and grasses of the TV series, this big screen version delivers a rather more international feel (although based entirely in London) on a mission that Bodie and Doyle would have been comfortable with - lots of shots of oil conferences and unconvincing looking extras at 'ministerial cocktail parties'. The plot is good though, and gets on at a brisk pace. The real benefits come from some strong characters and excellent performances. Thaw and Waterman are excellent as you'd expect but so are Foster, Bannen, Keen and Welland. And the assassins Johnson and Johnson are still sinister after all these years.The Blu-Ray: Network don't muck about and this is a really good blu-ray. I had this on DVD and the improvement is huge. It is a pleasure to have this blu-ray version as it does full justice to a very good (and somewhat over-looked) film of the era.

Sweeney 2 is virtually a longer version than an episode in the television series. It's directed by Tom Clegg who presided over some of the best episodes. Being a cinema release the producers were able to go further in the respect of language and violence than would be permitted on a mainstream television programme.The action sequences are very well put together and the humor that made the television series so good is here too.Please be aware that the final scene in the bed and breakfast hotel is unedited (unlike some previous editions) and is very bloody.An excellent release from Network.The only fault is the booklet that comes with it has some good photos but the text is so small you need a magnifying glass to read it!

Loved it. Great quality print, great soundtrack, and for aficionados of 70s dodgy geezer ‘fashion’ there’s a lot to love. Plus I have never seen such an array of gorgeous 70s cars in gorgeous 70s colours in one place before or since. Well worth the modest cost. I’ll have to watch the first one now, albeit in the wrong order!
