The difference is that the karma cards are different so you may have a card that says get up & switch your cards with another player,

Why after 3 consecutive card is played,why take the pile?

Those cards are taken out of play for that round.

If you all of the 16’s are out of play would you clear the pile after the 15 (or the next highest card still in play)?

If no one can play a higher card then they have to take the pile.

The previous answer on January 2 is not correct. According to the rules: Each player must play a number card that is equal to or higher than the last card played OR a Karma Card. If you do not have a playable card you must pick up the entire discard pile. These cards become more Hand Cards. This completes your turn.
