Sometime you make a purchase on amazon because the price is low and the claims are high. Not all deliver. But this is one product that did. As claimed no smell, its virtually odorless, atleast I cant smell it at all when burning, Now if you stick your nose to it that wont be pleasant, but, you are not supposed to do that. The packaging is simple and works and opposed to the esbit tabs in the foil doesnt create the solid waste esbit does. Unsure if that affects the shelf life but I'll use them before shelf life is ever a concern. Good product, solid claims and the products holds true to those claims.

Compared to Esbit these tabs are a big improvement in three ways. 1. The smell is as advertised: not gone, but MUCH reduced and less offensive as well. 2. They definitely get the job done, heating 16oz of water from "icy mountain stream cold" to boiling in 7 minutes on my stove/pot setup, with some to spare (see partially burned tab on the right in my pic). 3. I like the wrappers better than the foil-and-plastic bubble style Esbit and other brands come in. It packs tighter when you're packing out, and also feels like less waste to me. (Hard to tell for sure.)It's not all love and roses, though. First, the plastic wrappers are very loose and also a little stiff. It's tough to fit 8 tablets in a folding stove the way you can with other brands, and the tablets are fragile - if you look closely you can see I shattered the one on the left. It's tricky to work with them that way, although you can do it.Second, I found them very frustrating to light. Butane lighters don't work well at 9,800' (which is where I was) so I usually use matches. It took me 2-3 matches minimum to get these going - the first night it took 6!. It feels like they should have some kind of small string wick or something to help get the process rolling. With some practice, out of all the advice here, what worked best for me was holding the tab in my hand so I could hold the match under the corner, and tilting the tab so the flame "rolled around" the whole edge.Third, once they're lit, yes, you CAN blow them out - but you'll probably quickly find that you won't want to. When you blow them out they smoke a LOT for a minute or two and the smoke is unpleasant. After the first time, my camping buddy asked me not to do it anymore! It also takes about 2/3rd to 3/4th of a tablet to heat a dinner's worth of water, so you need to save several and stack them or something to get more use out of them.Personally I'd rather see these be about 18-20g - maybe 1/4" shorter on each side? They would pack much better into a stove that way, and would be just about right for 95% of "typical" needs in my opinion. You'd almost never want to save the small stub left at that point, and if you were cooking a big meal, you'd still be wanting a second tab anyway. I think it would be more efficient that way.

I use these in a small firebox stove and they work perfectly. I cooked a filet mignon steak in a small pan this past weekend in around 35-40 degrees F, and just as it was done cooking the tablet finished up; maybe a little over ten minutes.Perfect way to make a quick cup of coffee in the morning without fussing with kindling.Doesn't smell and very light. Would highly recommend.

Be prepared

Work awesome, no complaints on performance. Despite being advertised as no fish smell, they do have a little odor. However this is far less than similar products and just comes with the turf, just dont expect totally odor free.

the 5 dollar stove COMES WITH 8 pieces that are thicker and heavyer than these. just throw away the "stove" and you have more at less than half price

These are great solid fuel tablets. Little to no smell. Leave only a tiny amount of residue. I can break them in half and use only a half to boil 2 cups of water. Good purchase and are my new go to fuel tablets.

These tablets have worked well for me. They burn ~10 minutes, which in warmer weather is long enough to boil two cups of water. In colder temps I need to use two of these tablets back to back in order to boil two cups of water. No fishy smell with these like some other brands have. The tablets leave a little residue which easily wipes off for the most part. I use a butane lighter in order to get these started. A Bic will work too, but with regular matches it's tough to get them started.I mainly use these for overnight camping trips and they work well, but I stick with my trusty canister Snow Peak Giga stove for multiple nights.
