Good Recording Quality BUT Very short Life
Revised review :The Pros still stand, but my objection lies against the very short life of this device. After the first one died within 18 months, I thought this may be just bad luck! Since I was satisfied with the recording quality, I shelled out another (nearly) 12 thousand rupees to buy a second one. This one died within weeks after the expiry of the 1 year warranty period, not that there is any service station in my city. So, if you have money to burn, go ahead buy a piece every year or year and a half and continue to burn ~Rs. 12K each time. But I have had enough!Pros:Good recording quality. Recorded video looks almost identical to the source. I am happy with it.Cons:1) After the set is turned on from its standby mode, it takes a while to setup itself while the TV display goes blank two or three times during that period. Therefore, one has to be alert to turn on the EasyRecorder well ahead of the program one wants to record. Since the input signal (HD set top box for me) continues to be displayed normally on the TV with simply the mains power on, it is easy to forget to actually turn on the EasyRecorder from its standby mode before one can start recording.2) In India, signals from "HD" cable or Dish is invariably 0nly1080i on the so-called HD channels and not 1080p. EasyRecoder doesn't seem to record such signals in its original resolution (1080i) but as 720p, although visually the video doesn't look any worse.3) Even when the input signal has 5.1 surround sound, videos recorded by EasyRecorder are simply stereo.4) Last, but in no way the least, the price set is way too high. Should have been below Rs.10k. Between 8k and 9k would have been reasonable. My recommendation? If you can live with the cons listed above, you should definitely buy it. It is a really useful device.

GOOD PRODUCT BUT HAS LIMITATION. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT.
CAN CAPTURE UP TO 1080. IF INPUT IS MORE THEN 1080, WILL NOT CAPTURE.SHOULD HAVE SOFTWARE UPDATE TO AUTOMATICALLY DOWN GRADE FROM HIGHER RESOLUTION TO 1080 RATHER NOT SUPPORTING IT.

This thing is great!
The hard drive in my Bell PVR died and I couldn't get another drive to work with it, so I got one of these and it works great. I use a cheap component to HDMI converter from the PVR to the EzRecorder though. I did get an HDMI splitter, but didn't bother trying it yet cuz it's not my main TV, and it looks fine the way it is. Anyway, this thing works great, and is the only unit I saw that would allow you to record and play back, all from the little box and an external drive. It came with a usb stick, but it didn't work worth a damn to record to, so maybe it was just for updating the unit, but I didn't bother trying to do any firmware updates or anything, it just worked outa the box all simple like. Now I can toss my external drive on a PC and backup recordings I wanna keep, and if I blow another drive, who cares! Shipped fast and works perfect outa the box for me.

Graba a 1920x1080p.

Einfacher HDMI Rekorder - Hervorragende Bildqualität - Einfachste Bedienung

The AverMedia ER310 EZRecorder is a good standalone box for making video files
The AverMedia ER310 EZRecorder is a good standalone box for making video files. Its not a great DVR or PVR, the unit has features for Timed and Scheduled recordings, but those must be co-ordinated by a human. There is no EPG or electronic program guide.. so this is not the second coming of TiVo or the Channel Master DVR+ .. No Tuners! But it does have a satellite box IR blaster port and comes with the LED for driving a set top box.It has HDMI in and out and Component In with audio jacks, but can also capture audio from the HDMI in if its plugged in.It is an evolution up from the game play capture boxes, and it is totally independent of a PC.. no tethering or post production is required to produce files you can play on most devices. The native storage file system is NTFS and it expects an MBR partition.. maxes out at 2 TB so be aware you can't use really large disks. The HDD drive slot underneath is "tool less" no screws, its a simple plastic spring clip and your in.. the drive bay has one SATA connector and no drive carrier or drive screws. the door has a little twirly selector for nudging a rubber stopper to select the right thickness to hold the drive in, when the door is clipped back in place. The front USB port is for an external device, can be flash or a portable hard drive. It can record direct to the usb port drive or user supplied internal sata drive. It does come with a small remote with real rubber buttons that have some heft and depth to them, Its palm sized and exactly the opposite to too large wand sized remotes where you have to stretch to mash the buttons.. in fact it totally fits in a small hand and might be too small for some large hands.. you kind of cradle it. But you don't really need it except for advanced setup options, or to move files from the internal drive to the external drive after recording. The front has a power button, and a big Record button, press to start, press to pause, press to stop recording. This can playback recordings.. but its totally geared to make instant recordings possible. There is also auto-power down and auto-power up on signal detection.. but I don't know if that means it will begin to record on signal detection. The on screen menus are confusing, though they try to embed the printed users manual inside the tool tips on screen. You can dismiss them permanently after reading them one time.It does have Component (RGB/YUV) inputs with Stereo jacks and HDMI input for recording. It has a HDMI pass-thru so you don't need a splitter to see the on screen menu. It can terminate HDCP at the er310 or pass that on thru to the actual display unit. It discourages using an HDCP remover or game splitter.. but acknowledges for some users with a legitimate license it might be possible. This is the initial or "slower" but full featured version, it auto-detects whatever resolution is presented to its inputs and chooses to record 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080p files in h.264 main 4.1 aac format. These files are basically using a 2005 format and can be played back on most devices made today. You might even be able to plug a usb stick with them into a DVD or Blu-ray player and play them back.. eliminating the need for both optical discs and a PC.The firmware has had about 10 revisions and its updated using a copy from a usb stick. It also has an Ethernet port, but in this model that appears only for setting the Time from a Network Time source.I really wish it had an S-Video port or a way of using the Component Y, Pb connections to detect an S-Video specialty cable to begin capturing S-Video. It would be very much more useful to people archiving video tapes and old playback formats if it had that. For what it does its a brilliant device.. just don't believe the hype and think its a DVR.. without a program guide and without an ATSC tuner or Cable card it just isn't that. Adding an S-Video detect and capture option to the Component inputs would be a vast improvement however. The power supply is an external dongle, which has no fuse.. so be sure to not connect it to a wall outlet.. most places in the US will destroy it in less than a month. It has no features to protect it from an over voltage or a power surge. Be Absolutely Sure.. to put it on a Computer UPS or really good Surge protector.. US power companies run really high voltage these days (127 volts or higher) and it often pulses and spikes during the day. The dongle is rated 100-240 volts but that doesn't mean its a surge protector.. it passes all those transients right on thru.ps. Some old DVR recorders nearing the end of their life will stop burning DVDs. The AverMedia ER310 can be connected to the hdmi or component output of those recorders to "re" record the original recordings into video files which can used to produce DVDs on a PC or simply played back on a media server. Its not fast, you have to playback at X1 speeds but you probably aren't going to want to save everything and can be selective. You can also "edit down" recordings on a DVD recorder hard drive and playback only the content and not the adverts.. effectively speeding up the X1 playback slightly. The DVD recorder already did the hard part of capturing a timed or scheduled show, and messing with crazy broadcast signal problems.. when it "tells the story" to the ER310 it will be pure and pristine, and or high resolution.. h.264 doesn't suffer the macroblocking some older capture formats did in quite the same way.. although if it captured macroblocks.. the ER310 will faithfully reproduce them. This should also work for a Tivo or Satbox DVR.. export by "playback".. and capture to "normal" shareable files.
