Perfect for home or classroom!
This book is amazing!!!! I did a lesson with this in my first and fourth grade classrooms and both teachers I worked with wanted to share it with their team. First, I read this book (frog and fish grow up together in a pond, but frog goes to land and then comes back to tell fish what it’s like and fish imagines everything looking a bit like a fish) and we talked a little throughout reading - both grades thought the illustrations were hilarious. Then I folded a piece of paper into fourths and described four different “unusual” animals for them to draw. Even my teachers participated! After they drew all four, I brought up a PowerPoint I made, it first showed the description again and after a click, the picture of the animal would jump in. The students couldn’t believe these were real animals (we told them it was make believe at first, because they were too stressed thinking they would draw it wrong). They would point out how accurate my description was and they all got to share their picture with their peers. It was a ton of fun and great for imagining things and strengthening how we describe things to people. It also helps in other areas - history and science - where things have been described and people don’t understand what it really is. Anyway, it was great fun. I’ll be uploading my lesson to TpT - but this book was fun read and easy to craft a lesson around.

Beautifully illustrated with a great message
A fish discovers how great it is to be... a fish! He dwells on missing out on the world outside of the water, but then learns to appreciate how beautiful his surroundings are and that as a fish, he gets to live in such a beautiful underwater world. We are who we are and we should appreciate the uniqueness of our kind. This book is full of gorgeous illustrations, the pages are a smooth, heavy paper and the concept is an important one for young ones.

An engaginging, simple intro to animal habitats
This is a great introduction for teaching about animal habitats. An engaging story that’s funny and simple enough for a kindergartner and first grader to understand.

Still resonates
When my now 34 year old son was young Fish is Fish was a favorite book. When his 3 year old son and I took a walk by a pond and he saw tadpoles he didn't believe they would become frogs. I bought this book for him. He really loves it. It's gentle and firm. Fish is fish and that's that. Science is real.

The book is great! However the shipper needed to take some added care in shipping a small paper back. It has been sitting in a hard back book that is covered with weights to get the deep creases out of it. Heck, if a child can't ruin it, the shipper will!
