I used my first one nearly every day for eight years, until it quit working one day, with no warning. Display is dead, changed battery, still dead. Dang. This little thermometer is just about the perfect size, it folds up like a pocket knife, and is about the size of a Swiss Army knife. Easy to stick in your pocket. It's got a very durable finish, even though I just kept mine in an odds-and-ends drawer, it never got beat up looking. I ordered a replacement, but made the mistake of buying a different model from a different manufacturer. When that one came in, it was about twice the size, felt clunky and the finish seemed a lot more fragile. Bottom line, I ordered another Lavatools Javelin to replace the one that had given up the ghost.

This thermometer has been great so far! It seems to be quick at getting temps, even when going from one spot to the next, getting new readings in just a second or two. The swivel design is nice and auto turns on the thermometer. Magnetic back makes it easy to store on a refrigerator.

Mine finally bit the dust after 7.5 years of very frequent use (it started only displaying -58F), so I went ahead and bought another same-day. Gets a reading in just a few seconds and temp has always been accurate. I rarely (if ever) needed to change the battery - I don't remember doing it but I may have. It truly changed the way I cooked, and for a much lower price than the more famous brand.

As the headline says. I've watched a number of the PBS cooking shows with them using this make/model unit, but it was never identified until they did a kitchen "gadget" review of thermometers and this was their favorite. Accurate, great features, easy to clean, durable, well designed and the battery lasts a long time. We've been using this now for years, with no problems what-so-ever. Follow the usage guidelines and this well built unit will last you for many years to come.

An accurate digital thermometer is a real "must have" for any cook, let alone someone who spends money on meat. If you use this tool and avoid ruining just one nice steak, you've made your money back on the purchase.Simple to use, simple to read, super accurate. Get this.

I bought this so I could check the internal temperature when cooking a lot of mixed food items on the bbq. I normally use a Meater probe which is brilliant for large single pieces of meat that require a longer cook. This is great for when you have lots of different items on the bbq. The advantage of the Javelin is that you can quickly jump between burgers, steaks, sausages, and anything else you happen to be cooking. The response time is fairly quick and the build quality seems good. The temperature reading can be toggled between Fahrenheit and Celsius by changing the tiny switch in the battery compartment. I've used cheaper meat thermometers but I think this hits the sweet spot with a good combination of quality and value.

As the title says. I bought a thermapen (considered the leading brand by many chefs) which lasted 1 month until I dropped it and broke. This is the second Javelin probe I’ve bought due to losing the first one. I was so pleased with the first I bought another. Quick readings unlike some probes and durable. I’ve dropped these multiple times and they still work perfectly and readings seem pretty accurate. Also a nice size to carry in pocket. Would highly recommend.
