Each set features a magnetic back and easy-grip faces. Review: Excellent for the price, I dont think you can beat this set for the money. - I dont see how you could beat these for the price. You get a set of soft jaws and a set of rubber jaws for one low price. They came in a nice retail type package, and fit nicely. They grip securely and dont move in use. The magnets are sufficiently strong so that they stay secured during use and will not marr the vise or work. They have about a 1/8" shelf in the top, which allows clamping of parts by the minimum required for a secure hold. In practice, this allows much better repeatability when taking parts in and out during operations, as it indexes back to the same place each time rather than just holding it somewhere in the jaws. These are not precision ground or advertised as such, so they should not be expected to be a precision tool. They are for holding work you wish not to dent/scratch as you work. Overall, I am very impressed with these for the price. If you are shopping for a set of jaw guards to keep from marking parts as I was, these will fit the bill nicely I think. I dont think you can beat them at the price point for two sets of jaws. The face retaining 1/4" dia. magnets are positioned 3.150" apart, and the overhang magnets are 3.95" apart and equal distant from the ends of the jaws. The nylon is fairly hard as you cannot flex these pads by hand. As a compassion, they seem as hard as a frying pan handle. My comment as far as their practical use is that the contact face that bears against the vice jaws is only 7/8" wide, yet, due to the 3/8" additional thickness of the overhang that is above the normal contact faces of the vise jaws, any clamping done on smaller parts above center tends to twist these pads off the vice jaw faces. Because of the deep ( .205" ) V groves in these jaws, they are really designed to hold round rods of more than 0.3" diameter in horizontal, vertical, and 45 degree positions, and will do fine for that. The upper and lower horizontal face-to-face grip surfaces resulting from the deep central groves are only 1/8" wide. So, not much face area for gripping. Again, these are primarily for grabbing round stock in their v groves, like gun barrels, etc. **Q: what vise jaw size do they fit [4"]?** A: The overall length is 4-7/8". It is held to the jaw with two 1/4" round magnets. Outside edge to outside edge of magnets is 4-1/8". So while you're not going to get full contact with a magnet on your jaw, I would still think there would be enough to hold a piece on. I've used them and they held tight without slipping or marring. **Q: Any reason they will not work OK in a 5" vise?** A: They will work FINE on a 5" vise. It is really just a matter of what you intend to clamp. Perfect for gun barrells or anything of similar diameter. Perfect fit *by S***L on November 10, 2015* They work great. Perfect fit. The magnets aren't held in very well, I had to re-glue a couple within a few days of use in my home garage. Super glue is easy, no big deal. The magnets could stand to be a *little* stronger, but they're adequate as they stand now.
