Flashpoint 620M 300 Watt AC/DC Monolight Strobe with Portable Battery Power Pack

Product works great so far....but it would have been nice to know that it does not come with its own stand.....amazon shows images of a stand like it its suppose to come with one and it doesnt.....amazon or adorama need to make this known to their customers....please put that in your product features.....that it does not come with a stand for the monolight....if I would have known....It would have save me large amounts of time......NOT COOL....

I bought this to have more power more portable. It delivers. I love being able to take a battery pack now instead of extention cords. It also has enough power to shoot in broad daylight, depending on what type of look you are going for. You are not going to be able to make it seem like you are shooting in the middle of the night at 2 in the afternoon, but you can get pretty close. It will have no problem keeping up with your camera at 1/200th. You can only go so far with out high speed sync anyway.The battery pack is really nice, and comes with a nice bag.The power settings, are dead on. They were within 1/10th stop, according to my meter.The recycle time is good. If you are below full power, it is almost instant.I like being able to turn off the beep, and the modeling light.I only have 2 cons to report:The speed ring attachment, is not very "fine" the quality of the casting is cheap, and rough. Not a deal breaker by any means.The unbrella holder is cheesy, kind of like an after thought. It works, but not really well.I have used it a few times, and this light works great for me. I really like it, and am going to buy another here soon.Hope this review helps.

I like the flash a lot. It really performs well in the field. I used it twice. Both times, I got several, consistent flashes. The only problem is that the battery wouldn't take a charge after the first two uses. It's a simple 3k mAh, 12v pack. There's an interesting note on the label: "Do not use the no-original battery charger to charging, otherwise it'll exploded." That's verbatim. I was able to find and purchase a replacement battery for $60. That one did pretty much the same thing. I strongly suspect that the problem is with the charging system. The charger is a small, 16v, 0.7a power supply. Both the battery and the BP-1 Battery Pack are labelled DC16V, 1.0A. It could be that the charger doesn't provide enough current to charge. Or it could be that there's no regulation and the batteries are overcooked if left on the charger. I'd like to return both the flashpoint and the spare battery but, by the time I figured out that there was a problem, it was too late.

Despite having paid for the expedited shipping, this product didn't show up at my door for two weeks. Then, within firing the flash 10 times, it quit working. I changed the bulb out and it still refused to fire. It would turn on -- the fan would turn on and all the lights would respond as though the flash had fired, but I'd get nothing, even when pressing the "test" button.I am returning this product now and am going to purchase another one in the hopes that this is just a defective product and will update when I get the new flash. All in all though I'm extremely dissatisfied at the moment with not only this product but Adorama's customer service.

Discovered this AC/DC strobe / monolight while reading a discussion thread on the Flickr Strobist group: [...].I've purchased a number of monolights over the years, some good, some bad. For the money, I can't even believe what I got in this product. The build quality is right on par with my more expensive strobes; the potentiometer that controls light output feels like it's built to last. The switches and buttons all have a nice positive click to them. Chassis is metal, Optical slave sensor is sensitive and reliable. Connector cable makes nice connection and screws in metal to metal on both ends. Very nice.Recycle time at full power on DC is a touch less than 3 seconds; outstanding! Anything 1/2 power or less is basically instantaneous recycle. It's worth noting that the model light does not run while operating on DC power. Fine by me; I'd rather preserve power for more pops.If you're looking for a strobe that will travel with you to locations that won't allow AC (power outlet) connections, look no further. This kit comes with a nice olive green canvas tote-style bag for the battery, but no case for the strobe; you'll need to pick one up for easy portability.
