Great Stocking Stuffer or Easter Basket Filler
I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my 9 year old. He has loved larger excavation kits and I thought this would be great for some quick fun. He was able to break this apart on his own and found some very pretty rocks of various colors. We were very pleased for the price!

Small but it is what it says it is.
Wow! This was smaller than expected but maybe I did not read the description well enough. Incase you missed it this is as small as a deck of cards. My son has not seen or played with it yet as it is a Christmas gift. Actually after seeing the size it will be a great stocking stuffer. But dont let the size full you it still looks like it will be fun as my kid loves these kinds of things. Also smaller equals less mess.

One of my sons favorite Christmas gifts!!
My son is obsessed with this! I love that it takes time to find all of them. He works at it 30 minutes or so at a time and finds one or two minerals. I just leave it all on a baking sheet to contain the mess and put it up on the fridge until he’s ready to work on it again a couple days later.

Good, but not a great deal
Good, but not a great deal. It is really small like it says, and note that the box says it has a magnifying glass which it does not, but it is fun. We bought this for my 4 year old because my 7 year old has really enjoyed a different gem finding kit. Our original one was from a 4 pack of science kits we got at Costco for $20 or $25 and the rock finding kit was huge, and came with a hammer as well.

Good Times!
Wow, my first impression was, "You got to be kidding, this thing is so small - I think I just wasted money". BUT WAIT, you will be very happy that it is so small! Why, because if you actually use the tools given it will take you a considerable amount of time to get those gems (which are worth it). This little guy will teach you patience, gentleness, and a few other character builders. When we received this I thought my children would laugh at the size of the product - Oops, I was very incorrect! We are looking forward to purchasing other excavations kits of similar size and others as well. (Maybe I'll get myself one too!) P.S. Don't rush to soak it in water. This purchase went along with the purchases of ROCK ON! and the Introductory Earth Science Classroom Rocks and Mineral set. The three are a compliment to each other - along with the Opti-Tekscope Digital USB Microscope Camera - we are having an amazing time. Thank you to all those who are making that possible.

Small item but gemstones are large
Granddaughters loved mining for gemstones. Each one contains 2 good sized gems.

You get what you pay for.
Besides the fact that this was wayyyy tiny....my kid found 2 stones....thats T-W-O stones in each block. I had bought two "kits" if you want to call them that. According to the package there was supposed to be the chipper thing, a brush, and a magnifier in each. The magnifying thing was not in either box. And the stones were pretty small too.....coulda packed more than two in there man! ripoff

Was very hopeful and fortunately did not deliver
It is very very small so be prepared. It's about 2in by 3in . It is also quite difficult to dig the stones out. We ended up using water to make it a bit softer. My son is 4 and got bored quite quickly. My ten-year-old nephew is excited and stuck with it until the two gemstones were found. We ended up with a smooth Clear Rock and a pumice. Needless to say they were not that impressed. I know it's a cheaper option but your best bet is to spend a little extra and get the better excavation diggers that Amazon has. I ended up giving it to Stars instead of one because we did get to keep one stone and it did take about 10 to 15 minutes to unearth them. Overall I will not buy this ever again. My nephew or rather get another dinosaur or shark fossil excavation instead.
