how wide can the clamp open up to?

I clipped mine to my wooden headboard so I could read in bed. It is over my head and will cover more than my large book. If I point it to the ceiling, The spot is little more than a yard across. It has two kinds of light. One is bright like an LED light and one is an incandescent bulb. Both have three dim positions. I do like it better than the bedside lamp to read by.

If you cant replace the lights in the lamp what woukd you do? Would you have to just buy another lamp?

LED's have a very long life span. Of course, by having the light ON continuously the lamp may only last a few years. That is only an estimation of time.

Can this be attached to a needlepoint frame or embroidery hoop?

not a hoop for sure, it would need a wider flat base for attach to. I would say at least 2 to 3 inche wide, and the thickness of a 1/4/ of ply wood... it is a strong clamp

Is the light bright enough for studying in dark room?

It can be adjusted to whatever brightness you like. I don't think you would have a problem.
