It is a smaller toy, probably one and a half feet wide and a foot tall. It is a fun toy. My son chews on the drumsticks and uses his hands to tap on the beat buttons. We have had it for a year and he still plays it.

Can someone explain how to turn off all the background music and talking so the only noise is the drumming my child does? Thanks!

Nope. It's completely bunk. Even after you press the mute/music button 9 times to stop the background music, the guy still says "terrific" and adds a random few noises every few hits.

On our VTech keyboard, the keys light up to show our daughter which keys to hit and when to hit them in order to play a given song. Do the drums?

yes it lights up to tell you what drums to hit it, also has a alphabet song and you can hit the drums as you go along. it has a memorization something similar to Simon Says too. It has animal sounds as well. Its a really cool toy. My son is 12 months so he just likes to hit it to make a sound.
