Hard to know exactly without seeing it, but sounds like you might need to change your needle. If you have, you most likely have a defective product

If you're asking about the "SpitJack The Magnum Meat Injector - Deluxe Limited Edition Kit", yes. I bought mine a year ago and it came with a set of brushes for cleaning the needles and injection cylinder. I'm definitely glad I went ahead and bought the entire set because it also included spare o-rings which will save me from having to eventually hunt down appropriate replacements. I also really appreciate having the case to keep everything together. After use I wash everything and then leave the case open on my counter for a day to make sure everything dries completely and then zip it up and put it away until the next use.
Overall, I'm VERY pleased with this injector. It was very expensive but it was worth every penny and I have no regrets. I've had many different injectors over the decades but I don't see a need to ever buy anything different. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat!

That's normal, especially using one of the larger needles and/or with thin liquids like apple juice.  I just tilt the needle up after drawing in the liquid while I move to the meat. You may lose a couple drops at each end but not enough to worry about. It's the best product I've found for injection without a doubt.

Are the parts dishwasher safe (except from the pistol grip)?

Only the barrel and the needles are dishwasher safe. Better to clean everything by hand, though
