I find it useful and lightweight. The advice from one of the reviews about covering the small hole to get better sounds works great. Also, twisting the head on its base to get the right sound makes a difference. Its a good value and helps me check for a solid rthythm that boosts my confidence my heart is acting normally when i sense it may not be.

Came damaged and it does not do what it’s supposed to do. Does not work . It’s cheaply made and I can’t hear anything through the stethoscope. Don’t waste your money on these.

A friend remarked "I wish I could hear our dog's heart murmur" so when I was on Amazon, lo, there was a five buck stethoscope. I was surprised, as I thought such an item would cost a lot more. This is a basic unit. You put it together by attaching the tubing, and twist the head to turn it on or off. Put a finger over the hole on the back of the head and you can hear your heart sounds. The smaller end, when pressed to the chest, allows more localized listening.The dogs were easy to listen to, once I checked a chart for where to hear heart sounds (right behind the front leg, for starters.) It takes some practice to recognize different murmurs, and the room has to be quiet. By comparing to mp3 recordings online, you can see if you can recognize your dog's heart sounds.

This is an excellent piece of workmanship - very low in price and great for work in the health field for basic heart and lungs sounds. I noticed that it didn't come with instructions, so for all the people who are thinking of buying this - you need to know that you can turn the head (hold tube at base of head, and simply twirl it) to get a better/different sound. To hear very clearly, simply place your finger over the hole on the top of the smaller head. Heart tones, breath sounds come in loud and clear. I am so pleased I found this again. I had an older one (might have even been the same brand) that lasted me for quite a while so was looking for a similar lightweight stethoscope that did not pull on the neck, or whose headpiece is so heavy that it became a burden to carry.Before I came to Amazon, I had bought 2 other more expensive stethoscopes in the past month, but they were so heavy and unwieldy, and I could not hear from them as well, so went to Amazon and found these. Very strangely enough, for my ears, this cheap one sounds so much better than those other 2 Prestige stethoscopes (the $19.00 ones). Actually, even better than my old vey expensive Littmans.Also, since the price is so cheap, I will not regret losing it TOO much (like my 2 previous (expensive) Littmans). Well, I suppose we all have different hearing and perceptions of what we hear, so this is my opinion. I do have friends who swear by their Littmans, but for me, this sound is very much clearer.

I actually purchased this stethoscope for a prop for a costume, but as a former nurse also have experience using them, so know the good versus bad. The main pro is the price point: since this would be used as a prop, I searched high and low for the cheapest "real" stethoscope on Amazon, and this couldn't be beat. Shipping was SUPER fast and it was at my door within two days. If you're planning on using this professionally, it's good for an at-home steth (ie; to use while monitoring blood pressure, etc), but I personally wouldn't be completely comfortable using this in a clinical setting. The quality isn't all that great (though definitely not awful by any means, and totally useable), but I would (personally) invest in a pricer one. The parts are a bit flimsy, sound quality isn't all that great and a bit muffled, etc. This comes in several separate pieces, so you do need to assemble it, though it couldn't be easier to put together.

I purchased this for my Halloween costume last year, which worked perfect for that application. I've also used it to listen to my dog's heartbeat, my own, et cetera. I am not in the medical field, and do not have the expertise to give an opinion on how this would work in the medical field. Again, I purchased it for my Halloween costume.#thekilted1

I only needed a stethoscope for one or two uses then planned to toss it in the junk drawer and forget about it. For the price, this stethoscope does everything that I expect it to do. Note that there are no instructions and you are assumed to know how to use it (which I don't). I couldn't hear my heart unless I covered the hole on the other side. Then I remembered reading a review about a switch or something. If you look into the hole on the small side you can see that the piece that the tubing attaches to is actually a valve. You can twist it around to block or open each side. It is literally like a mute switch. For the price it is perfect. It is not terribly comfortable, but if you planned to use it frequently or for extended periods of time, you probably would spend the money on a better one anyhow.
