Performs as expected... 4 stars because of TWO reasons:1) it is USB 2.0 compliant, indicating, to my mind at least, that it is perhaps, an old(er) version being sold in India. The speed gap between usb 2.0 and 3.0, is nearly 10x after all... So makes a hell of a difference. But heck!, it's the only, nearly pocket sized, slim-n-sexy dvd burner available at that price point in India at least.2) IF (& only if) you have an old computer, even the bundled dual-point usb cable will not be able to provide sufficient power, resulting in painfully slow disc burns. Sample this... With a direct plugin to an old computer's two usb ports using the bundled dual plug usb cable, a 7.4 gb, DL (double layered) dvd takes nearly 24 hrs to burn. The SAME job gets done in approx a little over 1.5 hrs when you use a powered usb hub in between your old computer and this burner!!!-------I tried the direct usb way earlier, only to "burn up the burner itself"! Amazon was kind to replace it though the standard 10 days of usage rule had passed.Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you wish to burn discs, which are great for archival.

Very Nice product by Seagate All types of OLD CD's run working very smoothly in this Dvd writer all types of CD's And DvD's run smoothly like butter in this DVD Writer . If you need good type of working product Then Go For It Very nice thing by Amazon Good Work I am very happy for that my All old data is recovering by this thanks Seagate And Amazon for this magnificent product.

this was supposed to work directly by plugging on TV, but in both my sony TV this is not even recognized.total waste of money as i have bought because this was supposed work in TV as claimed

Looks easthetic, light weight and no installation needed. Plug it in and it gets detected. Just received and started using. Can't comment on durability, will have to wait for it. Read in other reviews that it has two USB cables for laptop connection but the one i received has only one usb cable. Checked by playing a DVD and it works just fine.

Writing Speed is Very Poor. Earlier I have used it .Writing speed is very slow, earlier it used to take less than half an hour, now it takes one and a half hour. Earlier it used to come with double wire, now it has been made single wire, perhaps because of that the writer is getting less speed. Maybe because of that it is getting power work. which is very bad performance.

Now that they're discontinuing DVD drives, it's my only hope to revive those old discs. Also this one is a USB abled.

I use it to transfer audio CD's to my iTunes library. It does the job perfectly. I use a Macbook Air, so i can't avail of the 2nd USB port (because they are on opposite ends of an Air and for some reason the Transcend cord is way too small). Even so, the speed is fine for me, but the cord length does reduce the review to 4 stars. Great product otherwise

The external cd DVD rom I ordered works well, but should have been in better packaging.The book I ordered looks good.

It did read all of my discs fine but with bad resolution… it also didn’t open after I finished the movie and i had to factory open it with a small small needle. It happened several times with different dvds and discs
