So cozy and calming
I really love it. In bright light up close, the logs are not 100% realistic. But at a normal viewing distance (especially in your normal lighting for a fire, which would be dim) this is stunning. There is flexibility in the log placement: so if you get bored, you could rearrange them. The velcro pads don't really hold them in place well, so if you need to move the entire unit, they will shift... no biggie, just put them back where ya want them. The sonic mister sounds are soothing in my opinion. Yes it is a slight "water drop" sound, but could easily be thought of as a light fire crackle sound. If you add a fireplace sound machine, it'll be heavenly! The coals on the bottom are not very impressive, bit still give just enough ambience. The mist fire effect is mesmerizing. No this does not mimic high flames, more of an end of the evening fire. The calming down phase, which is exactly what I want in my cozy living space. This will be integrated into a cozy movie room, so I didn't want anything too distracting. That way I can leave it on during movies if I choose. My space is small. If you have a large fireplace that commands attention, you may want something bolder and brighter. I'm ok that this doesn't put off heat since it will be neat my tv electronics. The amount of mist is low enough that I'm not worried about damage to my electronics. I live in Colorado, where is so dry, so I love that this doubles as a humidifier. The remote is a bit tricky and I'm still trying to figure that out. If I have any complaints down the line, I may post an update. For right now I love everything but the price hahaha. I did wait for black friday sale and saved about 15%... I could not find any other fireplace on the market like this without prices being way higher and the look too modern for my esthetic.

First realistic electric fire place...
Ever since one of our acquaintances burned their house down in an unattended fireplace accident, we've opted for electric fireplaces. My feeling has always been they either need to look authentic - something an electric fireplace has never been able to accomplish - or they need to look completely fake. It's better to go for "ambiance" and miss reality by a mile so no one thinks you're trying fool them with your faux fire than it is to have something that falls into the category of "almost but not quite". So we've always gone with the "so bad it's good" look...y'know, those fake log sets with the light bulb in the rotating can that crackles "like a real fire" if you believe the advertising slicks. People see it, laugh, and say "hey, cool fire!" And then along came Optimyst. This fireplace insert is a game changer. As long as you understand what you're buying, I can say with confidence this is the first electric fireplace I've seen that actually looks real. But first things first...there is no "flame effect". Do not buy this if you're looking for a roaring fire. I understand there are other Optimyst fireplaces - rather than fireplace inserts - that do have a flame effect, but this is NOT one of those products. What it does do quite well is project an authentic "dying fire" effect. The glowing logs and realistic "smoke" give this fireplace insert a very pleasing, "end of fire" look. It puts my wife and I into what we affectionately refer to as a "fire coma"...the calming vista of smoking embers is truly relaxing...with dimmed lights and soft music you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Optimyst fireplace insert and a real fire. One minor criticism...the bed of coals could be brighter...they are fairly dim and hard to see unless the room is dark. At more than $800 it's a lot of money to pay for an illusion, but as illusions go, this is a very comforting one. We are quite pleased with this fireplace and I do recommend it.

Constantly refilling this thing
So, this thing is alright. I got it to replace a propane fireplace in my greatroom because I was concerned about my young children getting burned on a hot fireplace. It does an okay job. The 'smoke' is fairly convincing although I think there could be more of it. My biggest gripe is how often I have to fill it up. Its basically empty every other day, and its a pain to refill it all the time. I'm trying to figure out if I can pipe water to it and maybe set up a float system in the little tank so that i don't have to continually pull this out and fill it up. I think the price point should honestly be closer to maybe $300 or $400 tops considering what you get. Also, I would highly recommend a pure black surround and backing. Initially I just had this set in place without a black backing and surround and i was really underwhelmed. I painted the surround a dark flat black and that really made the 'flames' pop out a lot more. Also, just as an FYI, it also looks much more convincing in a dark room at night. During the day with the sun shining on it you can barely even tell its on. A larger tank and more 'smoke' would seem like small improvements that could make a big difference to this thing. Overall I'm not super disappointed or anything, I'm just not super impressed either.

Cheap junk!
The water vapors cause water pooling in the bottom of the fireplace and rusting on the metal fire box. Very sad excuse for flames and way to small. The water vapor smoke looks good, but not worth the damage it causes. We got the other Dimplex insert with the mirror and led logs and it is great. Also a third the price. These should be recalled. Bad design and total disappointment.

Pretty awesome, room for improvement on next gen
So this is pretty much top of the line and as good as gets. I’m restoring a vintage fireplace and converting it to electric and this is definitely the way to go. Pros: realist look available as of now (winter 2020). Great size for a malm or preway. Looks as real as you’ll get. Cons: I find it extremely dumb that this doesn’t have an option to put out heat. Who thought, hey let’s make an awesome electric fireplace insert that doesn’t have an option to produce heat?!? Completely absurd in my opinion. Heating should be built in with a toggle for on and off, come on guys. If you want heat, you’ll need to buy a little heater to put hide in there somehow. So annoying because space is limited in my unit. A 1500w is to large so I’m going to have to try one or two 500w. I’m still happy to have the ambiance but part of that is heat. So again, come on guys. My goal is to make this into a “smart” appliance and i thought this would be easily done by a power strip. I’m using the Vocoline power strip with Apple HomeKit support and it pretty much works as I anticipated. I can group the outlets on the strip, and name the strip “fireplace” and say something like turn on the fireplace. This turns on everything plugged into. Now, I didn’t get the recommend sound cracker thing because I needed one that plugged in. So get a white sound machine with fire and get it set (volume etc) and your good to go. So now hear, sound works- but the fireplace doesn’t. This is because of the switches they chose to use. On is a push in and out (to activate mist), that seems to reset itself. The other is a slide button (to turn on the lights) that also seems to forget what it is set to. I can’t figure this out so I may need to really get in there and see how this can be resolved. The heater and sound machine (and any other item plugged into a smart outlet) turns back on to whatever settings it was set to. This doesn’t seem to be happening though and it’s could be a deal breaker if I can get a work around. The last con, is that you basically have to move all the logs around and lift the big one in the rear completely out, in order to get to the water tank that needs to be filled up. Which is about...maybe 8 to 12 hours of use I think. I found that you can fill up, connect it and let sit for a moment, then go fill it up again. It empties about 1/3 right when you set it in, as I guess it fills up the internal tank. So if you go top of the removable one again then install everything back, you get more use. There may be a way to set a plumbing line to it but I won’t be able to that given it’s location. So be aware, if you’re going to use this for date night or a weekend, you need to fill it up before hand and then put it back together (about 5 minutes, and not really that big of a deal). Overall it is still the best solution I have found.

I think I love you...
Burn baby burn....but not exactly a disco inferno, but surprising good. I'm finishing my basement and want a fireplace in the game room. The problem is we already have too many gas appliances so our regulator is literally tapped-out. The best quote for the fireplace and new regulator was over $11,000! To be fair, $11K is a reasonable price for all the work, but since we almost never use the other three fireplaces, I was not sure I wanted to burn through that much cash. So I fired up Amazon and found this hot little number for $750; hell, its worth a shot! To my surprise, it looks very convincing. It is a royal pain to put water in because you must pull out the entire unit to access the back. I get why they did it this way because it is a humidifier and does require periodic cleaning to avoid nasty growth and if you have hard water, mineral deposits will degrade the ultrasonic vaporizer. Still, they should have made one of the logs the water tank....it would have been relatively easy to do. I'm attaching a couple of videos. The song in the background is a tribute to my sister's childhood crush who died today...God speed, Mr. Cassidy; I hope you find peace. Thank you for making our childhood a little more fun.

Realistic looking
We put a ventless gas fireplace in our newly built house and, as it turns out, learned the hard way that those are unusable, even unhealthy, because of the noxious fumes they produce. It is prohibitively expensive to replace it with a vented gas fireplace. We have a bias against electric fireplaces because they tend to look so unrealistic. However, I spent a lot of time researching options, watching YouTube videos, etc., and came across this one; we decided to give it a try. The light makes it look like fire and the mist looks like smoke. Frankly, it is more realistic looking than our original ventless gas fireplace. We love it! The fact that it does not produce heat is a bonus for us. If you are looking for the ambience that comes with a small fire in a fireplace, I would highly recommend this option.

Big Disappointment !!
This DLGM29 is a BIG disappointment! I've seen the Dimplex Media Console flame effect in a store and was blown away by its realism- The flames danced about a foot in the air! So I was confident that this Dimplex Opti-Myst Fireplace would be similar, as the product photos show the orange flames jumping about 5-6" higher than the logs. Not as shown! The lights in this unit are 2 very small bulbs, whereas the others have 4 large halogen bulbs. This Unit only produces a white whisp of smoke that rises about 3" above the logs. I'll attach photos so you can see what I mean. Under the logs glows an orange hue as if there is a smoldering fire, but NO FLAMES, only a small whisp of white smoke as if the fire just went out and the smoke is rising. Although, the smoke does look realistic- I want fire! This just gets me hot and bothered... Another issue I have with it is the gurgling sound the transducer makes as it vaporizes the water. It sounds like a desktop zen waterfall. I can hear it across the room 20 feet away. I called Dimplex and they assured me it should be silent and it may be defective. I'll just return for refund. Very frustrating.

Good purchase
Item arrived sooner than expected. Item came as indicated in purchase description. Assembly was a little tricky, getting logs to stay in place was not the easiest. Had to use extra Velcro pads, which were included with packaging, to get proper placement. Flame effect is very good, not great, but serves our purpose quite nicely. Not purchased as a heat source, because there is no heat produced, but as a fireplace effect does the job.

Not quite like the advertisement
I liked the design and the glowing logs and mat. But, just wispy smoke was created, and an orange glow from the center. The instructions were vague. On the positive side, the company quickly responded to my request to return, and processed my refund immediately after they received it. Note: Canadian purchasers. There is no free return. I should have checked beforehand (it’s stated), but I’ve never had to pay for a return before. It cost me $350.00 to send it back to the States through FedEx; Canada post wanted $700.00.
