The hydrometer reads exactly 1.000 in water and when tested on a known cider recipe that was expected to be about 1.060, the hydrometer read exactly that. So five stars for accuracy. I find the Brix scale a little hard to read but this is my first and only hydrometer so I have nothing to compare against. My reading glasses are 1.75 and barely adequate. The problem is not just the small lines but quality of the print combined with glare from the glass plus translucency of the plastic cylinder. I find myself taking a photo of the hydrometer and zooming in. The 250ml translucent graduated cylinder came with a curve and the whitish plastic makes reading the hydrometer more difficult. It seemed like the plastic was becoming more opaque with use so I replaced it with a nice glass cylinder that is not only easier to read through but only needs about 190ml of liquid. This is a good hydrometer set for the price and is probably fine for most people, especially younger eyes.
