Dräger Alcotest 3820 Breathalyzer, Evidential Accuracy, NHTSA-Approved

I'm a casual, after work type drinker, and there's been more than a handful of times that I was concerned about driving home. I may have had too much to safely drive. Nobody wants to hurt themselves or another person or go to jail.I've looked at other units and read reviews on personal breathalyzers over the years and they've all been keychain junk or at best have questionable results and poor stereotypical Chinese build quality.From the moment you open the box you notice that this unit is something completely different. There is great care taken in each piece from the packaging all the way to the deep guts of the actual unit itself. It's finely finished and heavy in hand. The mouthpiece cover and mouthpiece itself snap on firmly. The operation is intuitive and the operating system itself is fast and clear. The LCD unit is bright and easy to read. If we are going to stereotype build quality, this is absolutely German attention to detail.The results appear accurate but I don't have an actual law enforcement unit to compare it to. I can say that the results are repeatable. There is little to no variance in result from back-to-back tests. It charges with any micro USB cable but was not included in my box. That's a small complaint since 99% of households will already have the cable. It comes with a nice satin bag that will keep it from getting scratched up riding in the center console of a car or your pocket.It's not cheap. Even though it's far more expensive than other personal units it's a fraction of the price of a law enforcement unit. Lives are precious and Court battles are costly. Bargin price insurance in the face of the consequences.I give it a solid 5 stars and I can't hardly recommend it with any more confidence.

Mine was 355 days since it should have been calibrated. No info where to send it for calibration or how much it would cost for a calibration.Save your money and buy something else. Mine is going into the trash.

Recently came across these devices and did some research after lots of reviews. Looks like there are two types of testing devices; ASD and EBT. EBT looked to have more detailed test requirements so went with this device. It does require annual calibration, but that also appears standard.Build quality feels good and is pretty portable if you choose to carry it around with you. Mouthpiece fits under the cap and keeps things dust free while carrying. Audible sound can be turned off and there’s still a noticeable click to let you know when to stop breathing. The single button is operated by short press and long press.So far it’s working well and feels like a quality device, but haven’t put much use out of it. Will update if things change.

My company has satellite projects in multiple rural settings and have a need for a good quality breathalyzer that does not necessarily need to meet BAT standards, but does need to be close and of good quality; all employees failing a field test are transported to a professional location which is BAT certified and that is the final arbiter. The unit is solid and while having to be re-certified yearly, we can live with that limitation.However, after spending $250 on this item, having to buy 5 mouthpieces at a time for $10 a set is absolutely ridiculous. Drager needs to make them available in larger bundles, no less than 25 and I would purchase them 100 at a time if they were available. Minus 1 star for lack of vision.....

This is a professional grade device, and has the same sensors inside the unit as the ones used by law enforcement.Two year warranty, Drager is THE best gas testing device producer out there, and this device most certainly lives up to their reputation. As others have stated, it is flawless - repeat samples show no variation and the numbers perfectly match what you’d expect your bac to be. I bought this more to satisfy curiosity about how my body breaks down alcohol than anything. I must say that I don’t drink often, but at .08 I am feeling pretty goofy, to say the least. I almost always take rideshare or public transit if I am going to drink, but this device can totally help keep you safe before driving. Like taking a rideshare, this expense is totally worth saving your life and career! This device will stay in my car to help keep me safe, just in case.

Worked great the first 10 times it was used. After that all it would do is display an error message stating that the sample was incomplete. This has continued you many attempts. As a side note the battery in these units are not replaceable or rechargeable. When it runs out you throw the unit away.

So if your like me and have a DWI and have drager interlock system and are on probation and absolutely cannot fail on your car test and still drink, then you should definitely get one of these. Its given me peace of mind whenever I drink the night before and wonder what my BAC is. If you've ever failed your car test the morning after it is the absolute worst, this takes the anxiety away.UPDATE: My unit has stopped working, I've barely even used it. It may have had less than 50 uses in total and I'm having trouble finding a number to call. Very dissapointed

Obviously well-made and easy to use. Gives consistent readings.Arrived with a fully-charged battery and calibration certificate. Impressive product.
