J.S. Bach - Two-Part Inventions is a piano solo sheet music edition for piano students, teachers, and performers studying Bach’s essential contrapuntal keyboard repertoire. Edited by Christopher Taylor as part of the Schirmer Performance Editions series, it combines a carefully prepared musical text with permanent fingerings, interpretive suggestions, historical and stylistic commentary, and accompanying online audio. Originally composed for Bach’s son Wilhelm Friedemann, these enduring works remain an essential part of the piano repertoire for lessons, practice, recital preparation, and performance. The selections range from SMP Level 7 to Level 8, with the edition identified as SMP Level 8 (Early Advanced) . Designed for piano solo, the book includes standard music notation together with editorial fingering suggestions and stylistic guidance that help performers better understand articulation, rhythm, phrasing, ornamentation, musical structure, and the development of a singing tone. The included online audio provides an additional musical reference, supporting thoughtful preparation and interpretation while complementing the printed score. Bach’s Two-Part Inventions continue to be valued for their exceptional balance of technical discipline and expressive musical writing. Beyond presenting beautifully crafted contrapuntal works, this edition encourages a deeper appreciation of Baroque style and keyboard artistry through informed editorial commentary. Prepared for serious musical study, it provides a reliable score resource for pianists, piano teachers, and performers building a lasting classical music library. Bach 2 Part Inventions
This is a very nice edition. The historical content and the explanations of the ornaments are very clear. My students and I like it. Thank you, Carol Domasco

Nice scores with interesting ornamentation. This met my expectations.

OK but better editions available
There are many, many available editions of the two-part inventions. During my search for a good edition to recommend to my students, I bought the Kindle version of this one. I don't agree with its fingerings in general, nor its ornament realizations, and will not be recommending it.

Poor job of laying out a classic you can find legally and for free through the internet public domain. See IMLP inventions Bach
This edition is not worth the money, is difficult to read, and makes no accommodation for the musician. When read as a Kindle book, the print is difficult to see and impossible to use as either a study or practice aid. The page turns are lousy. Unlike other scholarly editions, which offer detailed notes and even have Utext editions with free, downloadable notes, this is a highly edited text designed without consideration for readers and performers. Save yourself a lot of money and frustration and download a PDF from the Internet. You can get respectable editions such as those found at IMLP: http://imslp.org/wiki/15_Inventions,_BWV_772-786_(Bach,_Johann_Sebastian) for free.

An invaluable aid to performance of Bachs inventions
I was delighted with this item: the score was very well laid out with plenty of space; the commentary and suggested fingerings etc were very helpful and the performance on the cd was excellent. I consider the entire package to be a bargain and invaluable to the aspiring pianist.
