A Stranger in Town

Rule of law /oath of office/ integrity. Every American should see this movie . What Frank Morgan’s speech at the end of this movie should be taught in every school in every grade until every student knows it by heart because it is the foundation of a healthy thriving democracy.

This DVD arrived on time, well packaged, was just as described and I enjoyed the story very much, for me it was worth the purchase.

I saw this movie on you tube & liked it so much I bought the DVD. Frank Morgan stars as a Supreme Court justice who goes on a duck hunting vacation to a place in the country that is full of political & financial corruption. There, incognito, he meets an idealistic young lawyer who is campaigning against the corrupt mayor. Anne Dvorak stars as the love interest etc. The Frank Morgan character reveals who he is & makes a wonderful speech towards the end of the movie that reminded me of the Jimmie Stewart character in Mr. Smith goes to Washington. I liked this movie for it's humor, idealistic ideas, romantic story line.

We enjoyed this movie so much that er bought it- hard copy.

This is a fairly ordinary and predictable old film that I happened to see on TV. Because I was bored and avoiding doing chores, I watched the whole movie, not being too impressed, but it was the ending that made me buy the DVD. The last few minutes, which touched me deeply, made me proud to be an American. Granted, when I watch it again, I may fast forward through parts of it, in anticipation of being uplifted at the end, but every once in a while, I just need to know that right will win out.

I selected this video due to the fact that the story is perhaps even more important today than it was when it was originally released. It is reproduced quite well, with both the audio and the video being quite adequate.

I always order classic movies from Alpha Video with a grain of salt, being spoiled by Warner and Criterion. You can never be sure of the quality of their product. I'm not disappointed with this one, though. Their transfer of this film is wonderful! The audio is very clear and, although the film hasn't received a restoration and has the usual supply of dust specks, the picture is very watchable. A good transfer of a great movie and well worth the price! (I'm surprised that this MGM classic missed the Warner Home Video treatment!)

I saw part of this movie while I was in the hospital earlier this year. What I saw was so delightful, I wanted to see the whole movie, so I ordered it from Amazon. The first disk played one second of the movie, then it skipped a second, played another second, then skipped again, etc. I checked the whole movie; it was all like that. I didn't see any scratches, but I cleaned the disk thoroughly, and it still skipped. I sent the disk back and asked for a replacement. The second disk had the same problem, so I sent it back and asked for a refund. I'm very disappointed.

From 1943 , and in Glorious Black & White , this movie is a Capra style slice of Americana. Frank Morgan , better known as " The Wizard of Oz " ,plays a Supreme Court Justice on vacation who runs afoul of some local county extortion. When exonerating himself from that situation he sees a number of injustices that motivate him to get involved. Working incognito he gives a push here and a hint there to aid the oppressed and overthrowthe local corrupt power structure. Entertaining fun for fans of older movies.

Too bad we couldn't enjoy seeing it again- the dvd would not play, kept skipping scenes, not able to play. Very disappointed with this purchase.
