Oregon products are the best
This fits perfectly on my MS261CM. It would work perfectly on my 290 AND my 271 if I still had them.A little background. The day I bought my 290 and my 271, my 290 came with a 3/8 bar and chain but the 271 came with a .325! I asked our local Stihl dealer if they could convert the new 271 to 3/8 so both my saws will be set up the same for obvious reasons. They said yes and it was for FREE, included in the price of the 271. Both saws worked wonderfully for years until 1 day my shoulder (both) started hurting when I started the chainsaws cold. Arthritis sucks and so does being 75 a little. Anyhow my cure was to buy a "PRO" model chainsaw! If you have shoulder problems like i do you may want to do what I did?I went to the local Stihl dealership again and bought a MS261CM. If you have a 290 or a 310 or a 271 and you pick up a 261cm and use it for, i want to say just 10 minutes, you wont go back to your other Stihls. SO I sold my 290 and 271 Stihls to a couple guys without shoulder problems. BOTH of them very very happy! Those 4 models of Stihl chainsaws that i talked about can be converted back and forth in about 2 minutes from 3/8 to .325. The Bar, The Chain and the engine sprocket are the only difference between the 2.My 261cm came with a .325, .063, 81 drive links, 20" bar and chain and engine sprocket. I wondered how that would work so I kept the saw with the .325. It makes a narrower cut and removes a little less wood and so far the .325 chains do not dull any faster then the 3/8. From time to time while cutting 20" or bigger rounds in wet cottonwood or alder I noticed my front tip sprocket making steam using the original .325-20" Stihl bar. I thought maybe my chain oiling system had a problem but NO, not the problem. The front sprocket was just working too hard and it was getting hot. I spit and it sizzled. I then wondered if my Stihl front sprocket had run out of grease? THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL!I bought this wonderful Oregon 20" .325 replacement bar and chain combo and it fits and works perfectly on my MS261CM. It would work perfectly on the other 3 Stihl chainsaws that I talked about. This OREGON bar has the little grease holes on the front sprocket and I keep the little pusher type grease gun with me when I'm cutting and i use it every 15-20 minutes or so. I got the little pusher grease gun right here on Amazon.I have read a lot of reviews about this bar&chain combo. I saw some people said It doesn't work on their chainsaw. I think I saw a 290 owner and a 271 owner mention that. If your chainsaw has the 3/8 bar and chain it will ALSO have a 3/8 engine sprocket. You must have a .325 engine sprocket for this bar to work. When you buy this wonderful Oregon bar, you need to set it right next to your current bar and compare, see if all the numbers match! 20"? .325? .063? 81 Drive links? YA GOTTA HAVE ALL 4 OF THOSE NUMBERS MATCH BEFORE YOU ORDER THIS!I love Oregon products. My other MS170 saw has an Oregon bar. I wish Stihl had the option of coming with an Oregon Bar and chain from the factory.Ya know what I did? I went and priced my exact factory supplied Stihl 20", 81 drive links, .325 .063 bar WITHOUT A CHAIN! Amazon sold me this BAR AND A BRAND NEW CHAIN INCLUDED for a less than the Stihl bar cost all by itself.I would recommend this to my friends only they use 3/8. (but they ALL use Oregon bars)October 26, 2024Just a quick addition. After using my Stihl 261cm for several seasons I noticed that these .325 chains do get dull faster than my 3/8 chains used to. If I had it to do all over again I would have bought my brand new 261cm with a 3/8 bar&chain NOT a .325. If the wood is clean, up off the ground and it has never touched the ground or dirt then MAYBE my .325 would stay sharper longer.ALSO I would still be buying my 3/8 chains and bars and sharpening tools from Amazon just like I did before!

Well worth the purchase
I initially bought one of these items to test the quality. After receiving it and installing it, it was evident that it is of high-quality enough for me to purchase many more for all the saws that I run. I have a commercial business running five saws every day. My saws are Stihl and these fit perfectly. They are as good if not better than OEM blades. But our half the price. Will definitely continue to purchase.

Great bar but comes with a safety chain
I needed to replace my chainsaw bar for my Stihl farm boss 290. The bar fits perfectly, and works as expected but the included chain was a safety chain, which I did not expect.

Great chain and bar.
Felled and bucked up four large trees before it needed sharpening. No sign of wear on bar or chain. Will buy more for all my saws.

Quality Replacement that fits Stihl at an unbeatable price
After the end idler sprocket locked up on my Stihl brand bar like all the previous Sihl bars(they aren't greasable) I ordered this Oregon replacement and was more than pleased with the quality. The bar is American made and the chain is Canadian made and it's cheaper than the Chinese versions of the bar alone at TSC not to mention the included $20 chain. The chain is also a quality piece that has held it's edge extremely well so far, I cut dried oak for several hours without on the first sharpening. Now for fitment. This will fit all full size Stihl saws but you have to have the right drive sprocket. You will need a .325, 7 tooth sprocket for most Stihl models. That is a .062 width chain while a lot of Stihl saws come with 3/8 drive sprocket for .050 chain. This sprocket is extremely easy to change if your saw has the simple spring clip and the new sprocket is around $8 at your stihl dealer or the part number is 0000 642 1236 for an online search. That was the sprocket to fit my 036 Stihl there's only one other variation that I have been able to find in the drive sprocket and that is for the larger saws with a bigger drive shaft such as my 046 Magnum which uses part number 0000 642 1239, that's a 325, 9 tooth sprocket. I hope the info helps you get this great bar on your saw and saves you some time on the research. Happy cutting.
