Reliable microphone
recently purchased the Amazon Basics On-Camera Microphone and I am extremely impressed with its quality and performance. The microphone is very easy to set up and connect to my camera, and it significantly improves the audio quality of my videos. The sensitivity and directional properties of the microphone also work perfectly, allowing to capture the audio clearly and accurately. It is lightweight and compact, making it easy to take on the go, and the build quality is solid, which makes it durable. I appreciate the included windscreen which is helpful in reducing wind noise and pops when recording outside. Overall, I highly recommend the Amazon Basics On- Camera Microphone for anyone looking for a high-quality, affordable microphone for their video recording needs.

Decent, not great. Needs more bass response. Sound is slightly tinny.
I do a lot of recording with various cams including DSLRs, Action Cams, and Iphones. I'm always looking for mics that produce far better results than in-camera microphones. This Amazon offering does a decent job, certainly better than in-cam mics, but unfortunately, it doesn't enhance voice all that accurately and tends towards a higher sound frequency, leaving you wanting for more bass response. For general no-voice use, it's pretty good and has great pickup with its dual-directional system. That being said, however, it leaves a bit to be desired when the purpose is specifically vocal range. As a low-cost external mic for cams, I give this a FOUR STAR rating, and can honestly say that unless you are critical about voice, this mic will do you well. Otherwise, for more professional results, I would look elsewhere.*If you found my review helpful to you, please let Amazon know by clicking the "HELPFUL" button below!

does not work
Not workingUpdate and changed review:After a lot of work I have been able to get it to work. Perhaps it is easy on some cameras/computers but it took a while to get it to work on my ASUS laptop and I had to get a 3.5mm to USB converter to make it work. Still trying on the camera.

Bumped it once and it broke
Was using this microphone on a Canon Rebel EOS SL1 to record talking head youtube videos in my home office. Had it for about six weeks. When I was moving the camera one day I bumped a wall and the place where it attached to the camera broke. I duct taped it for a while. Eventually purchased a lav microphone that had much better quality sound.

Great mic for a camera
I use this microphone with a Panasonic LUMIX DMC FZ300 and works great. The sound is much better than the camera’s microphone specially if you want to talk in the video. The bag case is a little small and it is a little difficult to fit the microphone in it. It has three different switches and it has no manual or instructions so I still don’t know what is the third one for. One is for switching on and off, the second one is for record voice that is in front of the mic or record the surrounding sounds.

Great mic for budget DSLRs
A great basic mic. The fact that it’s actively powered means it works with Canon non-i variants via a mini-usb converter, and it delivers much clearer recording compared to an internal mic. It’s hard to beat the price.

You Get What You Pay For...
3 stars for sound quality and 1 for construction = 2 starts overallIt was much better directional sound pick up and recording quality than the microphone on my camera. It mounted on the hot shoe, but did not require power from the hot shoe. Unfortunately, one small bump and the base snapped off and couldn't be repaired.

noise
so i tried a youtube thing in the summer and bought this mic hoping it will be fine.sound quality itself it just "ok".noise filtering function is mediocre at best.also the audio cable could be longer at least a few more inches, but i had to get a 3 meter extention cable regardless so it dint bother me, but still a bit short.its ok in a mid-sized room.tho considering the price, this is not bad, and actually good for the price, however the avarage rating on amazon is definetly higher than it should be, which gave me false expectations.

Amazing value for money.
This microphone isn't going to set the world on fire; if you have budget for a pro brand then those will definitely be better in terms of sound isolation and dynamic range, but if you are just looking to record nicer sound for blogs or to use as a boom mic for no-budget films, for the price this thing is amazing. The different settings do all sound different, but are ultimately so similar as to be irrelevant. Both cardioid and hyper cardioid settings (in my tests) picked up sound from all around the camera, so if you need a highly directional mic this may not be the best option, however the isolation of the subject is significantly better than the internal mic on my camera. The 10db boost and low cut filter both work but ultimately sound no different than if you just altered the volume or EQ in the editing software. They may be useful in very specific circumstances but for normal use you may as well just leave it on the basic mode. If nothing else this will save battery life which is important as it uses a CR2 which is both tricker and more expensive to replace than an AA.The body is metal and feels quite well built. It has a hot-shoe foot to mount onto cameras and a tripod screw in the bottom. It can be panned left and right but not tilted up or down. It is also attaches directly so it will pick up knocks and bumps as you operate the camera. If it is mounted on a separate stand or boom arm this won't be an issue of course. If you're shooting on an entry level camcorder or DSLR - this WILL give you nicer quality sound. I have a Nikon D5500 which has quite a tinny mic with a lot of hiss and noise from the background as well as humming from the camera itself; this mic gives a much fuller tone and has better isolation of the subject.Great value for money.NB - if you buy an extension cable get a stereo one - the mic records in mono but it has a stereo plug on it, so a mono cable will only deliver signal through one channel. It's not the end of the world to fix in editing but still extra work.
