The case is ventilated and well cooled. If it ever fails I should be able to get inside and replace some components which is something you can't do with smaller units encased in epoxy. I like the USB power port too. The European plug is 220 volts while the American style plug is still 110 volts. This way I can power my British DVD player (220 volts) while powering my American "HDMI to S-video converter" (110 volts) at the same time. I use the USB port to power my Memorex Dual charger for the Wii. If you enjoy British comedies, desertcart.com.uk has DVD's of complete seasons of them and a much better selection than desertcart in America. The only problem is you need a Region 2 player to play them. I tried a Region free player but it failed after a year and the region free players do not come with a warranty. I figured the best bet was to get a warrantied region 2 player for my British disks (from desertcart.com.uk) and play my region 1 disks (American) through my home entertainment computer. So far this set-up has worked out quite well. 6/7/2013 Update: The USB port stopped providing power a few weeks ago. It's not a deal breaker but I do miss the port because it powered a Wii remote charging station. Power supplies should not break down like this because they are not at all complicated devices. If the components are halfway decent then the unit should last for many years. 10/22/14 Update #2 It died. I never used it that much either. It has probably less than 10 hours of total use on it. I'm getting a 1000 watt Rockstone unit. It's heavier duty and better reviews. Review: Mostly works as expected - I purchased this Voltage Transformer, to allow us to run three New Zealand appliances (240v) here in the US (110v). For two of the three appliances, this device works perfectly (a sewing machine and electronic keyboard). The third item, GHD hair straighteners kept blowing the fuses. The straighteners are rated 30w, and the transformer is rated 100w, so I was quite disappointed by that. Talking to some more electrically inclined people at work, they suggested the hair straighteners might be self regulating to an average 30w, thus drawing higher current to begin with. Anyway, I keep the transformer for the first two items, and just purchased some new US plugged hairs straighteners.

STU-100 Step up/Down Voltage Transformer Converter
I finally got a chance to use (attempted to anyway) the transformer and have been nothing but disappointed. I have followed the 4-step instructions to the letter and everytime I flip the switch to the "on" position it pops a fuse. I'm seriously considering returning it unless you can tell me what's wrong. We are on the island of Okinawa, Japan in an American style house with 110 power...what gives? Frustrated on Okinawa PS...I bought two transformers, the STU-100 and STU-300. Both react the same way and the only thing I'm plugging into them to convert is a small musical keyboard and a printer, both purchased in Turkey, both are 220V. Please advise.

Critical Design Flaw... with an easy fix
This product works - but has a critical design flaw. I'm an electrical engineer and I have a few products I designed and sell online - an overseas customer wanted an 220V EU adapter with his order instead of our standard 110V USA adapters. I said no problem - tracked down a suitable EU AC adapter and found this step up/down converter to test them with. My out-of-the-box experience is similar to many others - two blown fuses instantly, and oddly enough the third fuse lasted long enough to test the voltage output before it blew (220VAC, as expected). Being an engineer, I figured I'd open it up and take a look before sending it back - after all, I had an order to fill on my end as well and need a working 220VAC supply. With the chassis off, to my surprise - the unit worked great (kids don't try this at home)! I checked for loose wires and the only odd thing I found was the AC cable strain relief wouldn't hold the cable in the unit. I zip tied the cable on the inside so it would catch on the tie before pulling out of the box - no problem. I put the chassis back on and to my surprise, another blown fuse! After some inspection and testing, I found that the black screw on the side of the unit nearest the USB connector was penetrating enough to touch the leg of a resistor on the USB power PCB. That leg of the resistor had high-current potential voltage, and the screw shorted that to the chassis, which is ground. So, it's an easy fix - you can either: 1) Leave that screw out altogether. Being this screw supports the face of the unit, I wouldn't recommend this, but it is a quick fix. 2) Use a shorter screw, or just cut about an 1/8" off the tip of the screw so it won't protrude enough to touch the resistor lead. This is what I did and the unit seems to be working fine (as of today). So, as far as I can tell, this unit works, it just has a silly design issue that has an easy fix. Also, something good to note is the safety feature of grounding the chassis DID work - the fuse blew when an internal short occurred. Had the chassis not been grounded it would have been energized with whatever voltage it shorted to - not good! Hope this helps out anyone else having similar issues with this unit.

Great Product
I was moving to UK and had lots of small appliance which use 110 volts. instead of buying new device or buy costly voltage converters from appliance seller, I thought of tyring this. It has been wroking great for 5 months so far and no complains. Only thing you need to make sure that you do not excced the 100 watt. If you do, its fuse will be blown. Just replace fuse and it will work again. So , no more 100 watt in total. you can use 5 devices using extension chord using 20 watt each...so total should not be more than 100. Take care of this and this device will server you long. Highly recommended product who are using cross voltage appliance within 100 watt.

One of the best converter you can find in the market. Very Easy to use. Good price. Compatible with equipment from Eastern Countries where the voltage used is 220 V like Pakistan/Saudia/India. Make sure you, don't use a heavy equipment beyond its range. NEVER USE IT FOR: Hair Iron, Hair Dryer, Iron Presser! Cheers!

I bought it to use with a 50 watt hair Iron, it didn't work at all.

My brother have to change something inside of it for me to be able to use it.

Very quick service, received the ordered item in two days as a regular delivery. Item ordered should come with more fuses or the screw that holds the fuse should be firm and not loose and if kept loose it should be mentioned in the 'manual' that is first needs to be tightened. The voltage converter is working fine till date.

The delivery was super fast. However, only the right part of the outlet works (my 110v outlet does not work). Also, the fuse was dangling and wasn't firm and fixed when I received it.
