Great visually, looks awesome and super bright on 4k/HDR With IMAX sound
The film is basically a visual documentary with great sound in 4k and HDR. Bonus points if you own a IMAX enhanced sound system. (which was the main reason I bought it). Its super clear, fills up a 16x9 regular widescreen tv. I own a 70inch and its incredible. The HDR makes everything pop from brights to dark areas. To put it simple, its basically a documentary about the south pacific made into a sound and visual oriented film with random sound and music. Similar to something you'd see on a nature channel with a high budget. To give you an idea, starts off with kids playing, chatting/talking than they see a boat arrive, music starts and they run towards it. As they run, you see it from different angles, like the people on the side, guy cracking a coconut etc With occasional views on the boat getting closer and closer. The voice overs are done well and add to it. If you own an IMAX Enhanced sound system. There is major difference from Atmos and regular Dolby Digital and DTS. IMAX sound is done in partisanship with DTX so even without one it will default to DTSX which is thier version of Atmos. I even ordered the other film they -A Beautiful Planet- since I enjoyed this one. IMAX sound is more cleared and effects even more pronounced as Atmos/DTSX. Best way to describe it, clean sounding.I rated this a 5 even thought it came partially broken inside the sending package but the film was intact and replaced it with a 4k sleeve from a film I gave away and kept the sleeve. Some parts of the film label on the sides were stomped or crushed by something. The film survived inside a new sleeve not noticeable. the image I uploaded is after I added it into the sleeve. Sometimes packages get damaged by mistake in transport but no reason to score it lower and it wasn't a present for someone else.

Great photography
OK,but not the best nature DVD on the market! Beautiful sunsets, scenery and underwater shots! Plenty of footage on the Islanders and how they live, work, and play!too short running time!

This product had many dazzling chapters..the colors really popped and the sound was phenomenal..it was a great value also..only thing I didn't like was that it was too short..I could have watch it forever. I really liked this disc.

Breathtaking and engrossing.
These kinds of nature videos are usually a feast for the eyes and that goes double for this entry. The picture and audio are extraordinary. If you have an IMAX capable system this is great showcase disc. Highly recommended.

Dissapointed
Journey to the South Pacific is an IMAX film that focused on the eastern portion of Papua New Guinea, the Raja Ampat area. It has some great aerial footage, and some great underwater videography, as well as some terrible/mediocre undrwater videography. Overall, I was dissapointed by the film. They did 'voiceovers' for the fish, and over-did the sound effects for almost everything, including the sound of water rushing into the whale shark's mouth. The film, to me, had no soul. The subject matter, and the filming location, had such great potential. The narrator (Kate) was awesome as usual. Unfortunately, I feel like I wasted my $ on this one. It's infotainment, not educational. Definitately not a documentary. The additional information provided praised the islanders for their care of the reef, when the movie made it sound like the 13-year old boy (Jawi) was responsible after going on a 2-month voyage. Fluff.
