Exactly what I wanted
I was quite impressed with this little book. This is our first year homeschooling and I wanted to give my children an in depth picture of how America became a nation. I like how the book was divided up into different sections- one about a day in the life of Pilgrim men, one for women, one for children etc. I also like that it was written as if they were telling us about their days, using words we are not accustomed to hearing, and they have a glossary of terms in the back of the book. The artwork I felt was perfect for the story. The girls enjoyed this book so much that they would be let down when I didn't keep reading, as we spread its reading over two weeks. My older daughter has also gotten the book down to read on her own. This book, combined with a few others, have really given my children the concept of life in the 1600s, and why America is so special. Awesome!

Good Introduction
This book serves as a good introduction to English Pilgrim life in the first 10 years of their journey. It is delivered from a first-person account. It briefly touches upon Squanto and the beginning relationship with Indian tribes and the European. Several possibly unfamiliar words are introduced to the modern reader, expanding the vocabulary. It serves as a good start to learning the true history of the European Pilgrim life and why they chose to leave England.

Nice Account
We read this for part of our history lessons. This book gave a very nice account of what the men, women, and children's lives were like and what they were responsible for in the roles of their daily lives.

Not completely accurate
Mostly was fine, but it talks about them celebrating Christmas and pilgrims did not celebrate Christmas. Makes me wonder what else is off, especially since I am using it for homeschooling.

Lovely book
This will be a great addition to our homeschool. A previous review says the book mentions the Pilgrims celebrating Christmas, which is historically inaccurate. The book simply says “On Christmas Day, we started building the common house”, which is historically accurate (the date). They wouldn’t have called it Christmas, but there is no mention of any Christmas celebration of any sort.
