Just Started Testing
This is just my preliminary observations. I will update and elaborate when I do more in vitro testing. These are Street Guardian Dashcams number 4 and 5 for me. 1 through 3 are earlier versions and I an eager to compare them all. This review is for the SGGCX2PRO+ units. I usually test the units indoors before mounting in the cars. That way if there is something really wrong, I do not mess up a mount and disturb the packaging much. So far I have noticed that if you shut the units off with the power button, when you turn them back on again with the power button, you must hold it in until you see the logo screen, otherwise it shuts down as soon as you release the button. Also, the eject of the 32 GB Sandisk rugged microSD was kind of mushy until I used the micro SD in my Sandisk ImageMate Pro card reader. After ejecting in from the card reader, now ejects from the Dashcam are crisp and springy as you would expect. I think that perhaps the fingers on the microSD card are a little thick, and the reader digs in a bit and then the Dashcam eject mechanism can work better. This is just a guess. I found that indoors, in room light, I needed +2/3 EV for good exposure of dark areas without the polarizer. This matches what I experienced with the older version units. For good night recording the older units needed between +1 and +2 with the polarizer. I am eager to see how the new units do in that regard. Update 1: Here are more of my observations. I am still testing so there will be more updates. When I first tried the new dashcams indoors, I used my cell phone power cube to power them. Much to my surprise, this introduced a hum into the recorded audio. I switched over to use my computer's USB 2.0 ports and the hum was no longer present in the audio. Keep this in mind if you discover hum in your audio recording. There are far fewer click stops in the new units for swiveling the camera lens. One of my new units has 4 click stops and the other has 5. Not sure why there is a difference between the two samples. I do not know if it is necessary to have the unit at a click stop to have maximum lens stability. With the old units, I always set it to a click stop. With the new unit, I could not find a click stop near where I had to position the lens for my windshield. The swivel movement seems stiff enough to hold it in place, and going over minor bumps did not seem to shift the lens. The knob to twist to move the lens is only on one side of the new units (right side). The old units had knobs on both sides of the dashcam. This is a minor inconvenience. The old unit's circular polarizer was a press fit over the lens. The new unit's circular polarizer is a much thinner mount and has tabs that click over the lens' mating tabs. At first I thought that this was an improvement, but the mount of the circular polarizer blocks full movement of the lens and if you twist the lens to its extreme position, the circular polarizer mount pops off the lens on that side. Not so good, but not a big deal. The image quality of the new unit is better and sharper and license plates are a little easier to read. Street lights and car lights do bloom and halo more on the new units. I do not have to add EV compensation for the circular polarizer even at night and I have set the EV back to 0.0. It is still not quite as good as a camcorder though. Another thing I came to realize is the 1080/60p files are about 2 ~ 3 times larger in their mp4 containers than the 1080/30p .mov files on my old unit. I chose 32 GB micro SD cards when I ordered and I now discover that it really will not store very much Video. If you are buying, get a larger card if you want to store a lot of trips on the card. The mount is very tight. I do not know if that is intentional. It is less likely to wiggle or loosen, but getting off the windshield is a careful strain and not very helpful for non-permanent mounting. I will update again after more testing.

Good quality video, great features
This my first dashcam so I don't have anything to compare it to but it after about two weeks of using it so far things are running smoothly. The video quality is VERY good but make sure when you first receive you play around with the settings because the default video quality is not the highest video quality available. I like the loop recording so you don't have to worry about deleting old videos when your storage is full. I initially thought when I tried to install it that the wires would be all over my car but the more I looked the more I could like crevices in my car to run the wires. I ended up running the power from my car's 12V outlet behind my glovebox and then behind the rubber gasket on my passenger side door. The excess wire is tucked just above my windshield in a little gap between the ceiling and the roof of the car. It turns on automatically when you start the car. My only complaint is that last night after weeks of using it I finally had something interesting happen while on the road. This morning I took out the SD card to watch the footage only to find out that for some unknown reason my drive last night never got recorded. I don't know why or how but there is no footage of my drive home last night. It captured my drive to work earlier, and it captured my driving this morning but last night is just gone. Strange, but the only occurence of this happening so far. If it becomes an issue I will look into it further. In conclusion, this is a high-quality camera with great features. Quality for a camera becomes very important because if something ever were to happen you will be thankful that your camera can clearly record license plates and other important small details.

Terrible quality. Camera does not turn on
I was super excited about that SGGCX2PRO+. I have read many reviews, everyone told me that it's one of the best dashcams in terms of quality. So I bought it. Right from the start, I installed a CPL filter and set to 1080p60 ... My god, it was terrible. After that, I went online, found a thread on dashcamtalk website where one of the devs said that 1080p30 produces a better quality picture... Ok, then I don't want to question the feature which is useless and unbearable to use. I set it to 1080p30 and check the pictures I attached. They do not look like what Street Guardian advertised. It looks much worse than my 4-years old dashcam. After all, two days ago, my dashcam started to glitch - randomly it will not power on, it will not record anything and if you try to power it on - it would show recording and power LED to go on and off. That's it. To solve it, I had to unplug and plug it back. Obviously, this will not work with any types of hidden setups. I will not use this camera and I do not recommend it to anyone. Especially for that price.

Have to check if its on even with hard wire
Using the official hardwire kit (3 wire) sometimes the camera doesn’t turn on and I have to manually turn it on

Great first ever dash cam
This camera is really awesome. After doing some research on the best dash cams out there, this one was often listed as something to get the best bang for your buck. The installation was incredibly easy, no serious configuration required. I personally took the time to run the cable from my center console under the passenger seat, and up the a column for a cleaner look which only took about 30 mins tops. The footage is great, really clear and easy to see license plates during the day time. I haven't done much night driving so I have yet to see how clear things are at night. The only negative I have to say is the SD card that comes with the camera is not good enough to be used with the dash cam. You will need a high performance micro SD because of the constant writing, and overwriting of large video files.

Only turns on 90% of the time
I set up the camera with it hooked up to the cigarette lighter, but it only turns on 90% of the time when I start the car. Troubleshot the hookup and nothing is wrong on the car side. Still no idea what is wrong. Only started to care after I nearly had someone hit me and went to check the footage. Nothing. Worthless if it doesn't work 100% of the time.

Great Camera. Excellent Customer Service.
One of Street Guardian's strengths is their customer support. They are proactive in handling any issues one might have and communicate well in my experience. Since these dash cams are designed for set-it-and-forget-it usage, reliability is important to me. With the proper micro SD Card, this item has been reliable. A clean installation has its hurdles, like running the wires through the panels - especially the rear camera. Firmware updates at first can seem daunting but once they are done, the camera works as advertised. For a do-it-youselfer, this should be no problem. So far I am happy with its performance and glad it comes with excellent customer service. I would have second thoughts on any dash cam if customer support was lacking.

Very nice car cam.
The great customer service reviews caught my eye. Ordered the Street Guardian SGGCX2PRO with 32 GB micro SD card, because I ordered a SanDisk High Endurance Card, 256GB separately. I guess I should have called to ask what would be sent, cause the included 32GB card was a SanDisk High Endurance Card, too. Would have just ordered the 256GB from them if they were going to send that. Came quickly, as have all the pre-Christmas packages ordered. Gotta say, Amazon has the best delivery service. Followed the instructions online and updated the cam. Basically, format card in cam, copy update file to card, rename file, reinsert card into cam, start up and it updates. Make sure you pay attention to the file name change, it is different. Didn’t update the first time cause I missed it. They recommend a direct mount to windshield with included windshield mount tape, but I ordered their suction cup mount, which didn’t work, so returned it (reviewed separately). Instead I ordered the Anumit Universal Dash Camera Rear View Mirror Mount, because it had multiple mounts for different cams. It did have the mount for this cam. This worked great on the car with the normal sized shaft windshield mount rearview mirror. But, it won’t work on my other car with the thin shaft rearview mirror. So check your mirror shaft. Cam works great, clear videos, using the polarizing filter. Does have a little light artifact tho, depending on angle of the sun. I do wish it would capture finer details, like license plates while moving, but that would require higher resolution. Currently unplugged and not in use as trying to get the car smogged and avoid a weird “U0073 Control module communication bus A off” code from the car. Will be back in service as soon as passes smog.
