10697 Building Large Box Creator XXL, 1500 Pieces

This is a great set, the boy, age 10, can actually use his imagination to build things. Before this gift all of his Legos were those expensive kits that they assemble once, then it just takes up space sitting there. He has really gotten into building all sorts of things and engaging his thinking skills. I also purchased Lego Education Wheels set and Klutz book of Chain Reactions for Legos. Turned out to be the perfect combo to invent all sorts of machines. I am hoping he continues to create and explore with these sets.

Great set, but I'll be honest- I expected the set to be bigger for the price. Not a complaint, just an observation. I was aware that it was 1500 pieces, but just expected a bigger/more full box of Legos for the better part of $100. I now know that Legos are pretty expensive! My 3-year-old loves these and dad and I can sit on the floor with him for hours making different cool things. So fun and such a great way to bond with your kiddo and get them talking. My son is a little chatterbox when we're playing with Legos- I love it! Get this set and stay busy for hours and hours.

Outstanding value at the time of purchase. It was the largest quantity set available and was sold for the least amount. This XXL set helps offset our two sons and their Lego collections when they need an additional piece to complete a project or have lost a critical piece along the way. Anything Lego is always great quality.

I am so impressed with the massive quantity of popular, brightly colored Legos! In addition to all the classic blocks, the box includes tons of the more sought-after pieces kids prefer for their original builds like wheels, flat larger pieces and small specialty pieces, all in the full rainbow of Lego colors. My daughter (and I!) now spend a couple hours a day building since adding this set to her collection. I think this box would delight and spark the imagination of any Lego enthusiast!

Not enough larger or flatter pieces that would permit the assembly of structures that span any significant distance. There were plenty of such pieces in standard Lego sets 50 years ago. They have many more intricate and specialized pieces now, but even with those added, the overall sets -- even this very large set -- seems to not provide for the conditions that would prompt a child's creativity. I think that Lego has figured out that they can make more money selling those highly specialized designs that you make just one time, and then your child needs to buy another one to make something else new. Instead, the old style sets from years ago really encouraged creativity and novel approaches to using the various elements of the sets. 50 years ago, the sets were pretty basic, but, again, they seemed to encourage more resourcefulness and ingenuity than what I am seeing today. Even with 1500 pieces in this large set, the mix of forms contained therein just doesn't trigger creativity. I tend to suspect that that Lego people know this, and perhaps they simply know very well now that they make more money with all the assembly objectives being fully determined in the form of various elaborate designs -- but which force kids to jump to the next pre-designed one, rather than be creative.

Purchased this for our 2 ( and 11mos) and 5 year old grand daughters. They play with this all the time. We visited them for dinner and all of us, four adults and the two girls sat around the dinner table building projects. The five year old can't wait to get home from school so she can build with them. I was concerned that the 2 year old wouldn't play with them, but this isn't the case. At almost 3, she can put together the larger pieces and enjoys her masterpieces! Only drawback, there are tons of small pieces and we wish there were more of the 'standard' brick pieces and thus only 4 stars.

Kids really enjoyed playing with the numerous pieces that are in the box. Overall, is a good started lego box for kids to learn and get used to how to build things with lego.

This collection of Legos is amazing! Got this for the grandkids but before long we were all playing! The colors are the best I've seen in awhile. Lego's just get better and better with every generation.
