This basket is SUCH relief to own. My prior piece of junk basket had some small plastic handle I could never find because it was covered up by the filter socks we were using. Now, this basket has the easiest side grab handle that just makes sense! Seriously... why didn't other people think of that?Tip: We use hair nets over this basket to help catch all the tiny Crepe Myrtle petals and small debris and it's be GLORIOUS! I never have to worry about finding the handle in a bug filled, or leaf filled container. One time (with my old basket) there was a small snake still alive and swimming in the basket... ever since I've been a bit edgy about digging around for a basket handle in leaves. This basket is going to last forever (unlike the other thing we had). I couldn't be more pleased. it also FITS like a glove so far fewer leaves, almost none, get past the sides of the basket. This all equals less weekly work for me. I do not have to clean out the internal filter basket every week like I did before. It stays clean of debris almost completely!We live in a very leafy area. Everyone around us has blooming Crepe Myrtle trees that fall into our pool, so I clean the skimmer basket every other day. My pool guy recommended Val-Pak as the best quality skimmer baskets, and hands down... he was right!

I have bought two of these, my first one broke in the weighted middle area after 2 years (not sure if that is good or not) but works for me. I get a LOT of leaves in my pool in the fall so the basket has to work hard and that might b why the middle cracked because it got full several times. (?) Anyways, for the money I like this skimmer and it ships pretty quickly. This isn't a flimsy skimmer and the handle is built in to the basket and is easy to grab. I'll buy this basket again, it lasted just as well as the more expensive one from the pool store - which by the way doesn't carry any like this one in stock anymore...

I ordered this to replace an older version of the same ValPak model. This one seems to be similar to the old one in construction quality. It has one major design change in that it now has a “lip” on one side that can be used to lift it out of a skimmer. The old model had a horizontal rod across the top to provide leverage for lifting. For me, the new design is a major advantage. That’s because I use bags inside the skimmer basket to minimize the amount of debris that gets through to cause canister filter clogging. The newer design eliminates fiddling to get the bag in place around the handle which probably saves me 5-10 minute a week.Tip: Don’t spend big bucks on basket bags advertised as such – just buy disposable hair nets. I use:“General Supply - Disposable Hair Net, Spun-Bonded Polypropylene, White, 100/Pack 7387WL”Search for it on Amazon. About $7.50 for a box of 100 and they work perfectly. When you clean your baskets just throw it away and replace it with a new one. At seven-and-a-half cents each, why not?
