The Big New Yorker Book of Dogs

Dogs and The New Yorker, a great combination
I am a sucker for most things that deal with dogs, and then add the New Yorker, makes for a witty, sly, funny combination. Everything in this book is sourced from the monumental material printed over the years from the New Yorker, a treasure trove of all things smart, funny, socially relevant. Some of the best cartoons on social commentary ever printed come from the New Yorker, and the best cartoons about dogs and our relationship with them. (My favourite cartoon is by Charles Addams, page 247, few are better than he.) It also contains wonderful essays by John Cheever, Ronald Dahl, Ogden Nash, Anne Sexton and many others. A great addition for any book lover, or gift for a dog lover, and if you are both, even better!

A wonderful collection
The book contains a variety of short stories by authors from all different eras from the New Yorker's gloried past, and altho they all include a dog in some way, they're not "doggie stories" but are more sophisticated and varied than that. And of course there are some cartoons mixed in as well. A great book for any reading dog lover.

New Yorker short stories
I found this purchase such a bargain that I purchased two books. One for me and one for a dear friend. My hope is that we both can read the short stories and write back and forth. I live in NJ and he lives in PA. However, reader be aware, most New Yorker short stories are downers. I read the first story and family pet dog dies. Just so you know, the New Yorker prides it self in not liking feel good literature. LOL. The books arrived on time and in excellent condition.

Fun for dog lovers
This is a beautiful coffee table book which dog lovers will enjoy. Full of fine New Yorker cartoons, and it has mostof the classic Thurber dog stories (as well as many of his dog cartoons). Some very interesting articles - especially lovedthe one on the "Dog Whisperer" Cesar giving his life as well as lots of tips on handling dogs (which work, I found out). Beautifully bound and printed, its great for browsing. One cavil - its size makes it a little awkward for bed reading.

Lots of short stories about dogs
This is the most expensive kindle book I own. I just think $19.99 is to expensive. As a dog lover I thought this book was for me. Some of the stories were good but some were a bit dull.

I bought "The Big New Yorker Book of Dogs" as a Christmas gift, but before I wrapped it up, I could not resist a thorough peek at it. It is just what I expected from The New Yorker people: Funny, informative and comprehensive.Thank you for making my Christmas so "do-gone" wonderful!Roy Bartlett

Big Book of Dogs
As I gifted this to someone without reading it, I don't know too much about it. The presentation seems good.

About dogs and their people
This is a beautiful book, from the cover (James Thurber) to the illustrations and New Yorker cartoons inside (which cuts the schmaltz) and all the essays and short pieces about what it is to have a dog or dogs in your life.Much of the writing is delicately thought provoking, and ranges from stories about the maddening individuality and the various ways in which these creatures so often remain darkly or puzzlingly unknowable. This despite them usually being considered to be in an almost servile position to their human masters and mistresses. There is a joke in there, of course, in that they are, if you would know if you knew any dog well, always their own being too.Our relationships with dogs are collaborative. And beautiful. And are amply illustrated in this volume.

Mein Lieblings Hunde-Cartoonist istund bleibt Booth!! Einfach genial!
