Worth every penny
Absolute game changer on my 2003 Road Star. The road star and v star bikes have a habit of clutch slip under heavy acceleration. That is due to the diaphragm spring design they use. I paired the Barnett clutch plate with new OEM Yamaha friction and steel plates. Mine had 53k on them and were still in good shape but I figured I’d change them while I had the primary open anyways. Most people find that the plates are actually fine and the Barnett is all that’s needed. The Barnett changes the diaphragm spring out for a 6 spring plate which gives more consistent pressure. You will need to buy a new gasket for your primary cover for this install. I purchased a kit from another distributor with OEM frictions, steels, and gasket for less than $120.Barnett upgraded the bearing inside this clutch plate and the plate I received did in fact have the new bearing design.Installation was very easy. Follow your bikes directions for torquing the 6 bolts or you risk cracking the clutch hub. The responsiveness is much better with the Barnett but keep in mind it completely changes the feel of the clutch. This plate engages the clutch much quicker and firmer, which makes the clutch travel feel short.Overall I think this is a must have for any serious rider. Bike feels like it has so much more torque now that it’s actually being transferred to the rear wheel!

Great Product. One of the best mods done to my bike.
VERY quality product, professionally packaged, with all parts included. Simple instructions included.Machine work looks to be very well done and bearings VERY smooth as well as greased. Now that I have put a few hundred miles on the bike I am even more impressed with the product. The clutch lever pull IS stiffer, as was to be expected on a stronger spring setup; however, within a few hours I no longer even notice the change. The grab point (or friction zone) is smaller than before, but not to a detrimental degree. Once the clutch is fully engaged it is positive and slip free, so it did exactly what it was designed to do. One of the best tings I have done to my bike.Update: 5/8/18 have over 2K miles on the new Barnett spring kit. Having never ridden a "new Roadstar" I can only say this thing performs better than I had any right to expect. I still think this was the best money I have spent and so far has been the simplest upgrade to my bike.I would have no reservations recommending this product.

Simply Awesome
Bought my 07 Roadstar Silverado (with a few extra engine mods) last Spring 2012 and instantly noticed the clutch slipped when I gave it the beans in 2nd,3rd & 4th gear. I chalked it up to user error for the first few months but then noticed it would happen even when I knew the clutch was fully engaged. It was something I would have to address someday but since it ONLY happened when I really got into the throttle it wasn't anything too urgent. But what was driving me nuts was that I had all these extra ponies and I couldn't really use them because it caused the clutch to slip. This spring 2013 a buddy of mine got his first bike (another cruiser) and after a few "spirited" rides with him I had had enough of this clutch slippage. After a few web searches discovered that this is a common problem with the Roadstars (especially if you have more ponies than stock) so I took the plunge and bought this Barnett Spring Conversion Kit. I am SOOOOO glad I did. Now I have no slippage (still using the stock clutch plates) and can fully use all the power my bike has. The same buddy, who actually did the install for me, didn't like the results (He can't keep up!!!). He is a mechanic and had no problems at all; hardest thing was getting the old gasket pieces off. I HIGHLY recommend anyone that is having a clutch slipping problem to give this product a try. There are alternative options to fix this problem but considering the price is $130ish I wouldn't even bother looking into them. This is, in my opinion, the BEST route to take.

Royal Star XVZ13 1996 Yamaha - Perfect fit. Excellent product!
Fits my 1996 Yamaha Royal Star XVZ13 perfectly. You know you have it in the right position if it sort of wobbles before you put the bolts in. If it fits flat, and does not wobble without the bolts, you are against the the boss teeth, rotate one bolt hole. Check clutch movement before you install cover. Make sure you use Motorcycle Oil! I did not know there was a difference between automotive and motorcycle oil. Your wet clutch needs a special oil, other wise it will slip over time. The Barnett clutch plate was installed with new clutch pack. Even when I tried, I could not get this to slip at speed. I was afraid the clutch would be real stiff. It was not, the Barnett spring felt very similar to stock. I would recommend to a friend.Up date May 2018. Having rode with this for a while now, I am still very pleased. My old clutch plates even with 80K miles did not show much wear. I think I could have just used this spring had I not used the automotive engine oil. You might try a wash and dry your friction clutches with break-clean and then re-lube with the proper oil, and use this updated Clutch Spring. Any way, I can now roll start my bike if I want to.... I could not before. Also if I down shift too fast the bike lets out a little "Chirp!" as the rear tire grabs. The clutch handle may be a bit stiffer, but it is not a big deal. Still loving this clutch spring!

Nice clutch
Put this in my 1999 Yamaha Venture works like a charm , easy install, I have a wet clutch, just tilted bike to side removed cover and replaced never lost any fluid or had to drain.

Works perfectly!
This was a definite upgrade from the Yamaha factory clutch spring. Was told after a tune up that the clutch was starting to slip in 3'rd and 4'th gears and the shop wanted $1200.00 to replace the clutch. After a little review of the symptoms I found that the clutch spring was the usual culprit, and that this was a major improvement over OEM. The price was right so I opted to start with this. That was 3 years ago and haven't had any clutch issues since. Mind you, this is a heavy duty spring, so the clutch pull is going to be heavier than normal, but after a few trips you get used to it. I suggest using neutral at stop lights though just to prevent some hand fatigue.

Excellent product. True 5 Star item.
Well made and easy to install. This is a true upgrade from the OEM clutch spring “2006 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe”. Immediate improvement over stock. I went full Barnett’s spring conversion and clutch plates. Money well spent. Highly recommended by everyone that has installed the Barnett’s kit.
