Watched 'Marty Supreme' on HBO tonight and while it may have been nominated for 9 Academy Awards, not winning any, I am at a loss as to why it was nominated in the first place. I really didn't think it was a very good movie and found that it not only dragged in several places, was a touch too long and, for me, was a bit boring. Timothe'e Chjalamet was a champion ping pong player and hustler who wears the stupidest mustache you can find. He is determined to beat the current champion in Tokyo and is always desperately trying to raise the funds to get to Asia. In the meantime, he is mixed up with a pregnant ex-girlfriend, a nut job with a rifle who won't give back his friend's dog and a couple other sub plots. I found it all to be a cacophony of a mash up of narrative directions and acting that just seemed forced to me rather than fluid. It is not a bad movie but one that just didn't do much for me at all. Video quality was somewhat dark throughout though everything was easily seen and made out. Colors were muted and somewhat drab in appearance while contrast and object details were really quite decent. The audio was totally upfront, distinct and easily heard while maintaining a level volume against any ambient atmospherics. Glad I watched it once but will be in no hurry to see it again.
