Great manufactured blade!
I really like this machete! Like I said, this is a great manufactured blade. I say that because while it is a great product and I do highly recommend it. If you are trail blazing through the amazon, you may want to try something else. The blade is rather thick and can be difficult to sharpen, but overall, I love it, use it and haven't had any problems with it, get it and love it!

Don’t buy this!!!
First of all it did not come with a sheath. Not a huge deal after all it’s Fiskars and I thought I was buying a quality professional grad product. I used it today to cut ragweed, milk weed, some quarter diameter branches and grapevine. Blade is soft. Will not hold an edge. The handle is comfortable and the length is good. Didn’t come sharp at all. Don’t waste your money. Find military surplus machete. Better quality and will last. I was buying the name and it was a big mistake. Maybe the one I got was a one off that should have been culled.

It sings to me
Most machete blades are actually too thick. They are more for chopping thick hardwood than for cutting through ferns, vines and bushes. The blade should sing as it cuts. The Fiskars is just right. BOTH of mine came well-sharpened, but sharpen to your taste. I have the Gerber, the Bear Gryls, several kuhrkuri, etc. Fiskars' is the first that I pack along. The only tool for chopping Red Apple off of a chain link fence.

Good machete, but Fiskars could have done better.
This machete is actually not that bad. I don't see why so many people are whining about the quality of it. And I hope most people know that this machete DOES NOT come sharpened. Take a file, or if your good with a grinder, to the edge of it and this is a pretty useful machete. I also get the feeling that some people reviewing this product are hacking away at some thick trees and brush and completely ruining the machete. With a nice edge on it you just might be able to take on some of the thicker trees. The handle is nice and fits perfectly in my hand. The steel is of adequate quality but could be better. I'll probably use this for thinner brush, and buy me a ka-bar machete for the bulkier shrubs.

says super sharp on the package but isn't
I received this item today, the weight is good the handle seems like it will last, but the cutting edge leaves much to be desired. it looks like after they ground the edge the went back and gournd it blunt. the cutting edge has about a 2mm wide blunt face. it is going to take a lot of time with the stone to sharpen this.final thoughts: definitely not sharp as shipped. after 2 hours with honing tools it should be serviceable..

Fine for the price!
I think this will be a fine item for trimming small brush and ferns close to the ground for metal detecting. That's what I got it for. It arrived quickly. It is well constructed and not to heavy. It will need sharpening which is no problem. All in all a fine machete for the money and should perform well. No problem here!

OK for light brush, but too thin for serious work
I would describe this machete as a light duty tool. The blade is long and well shaped but thin (1/16") and flexes easily. It arrived with no edge at all. Looked like it was hollow ground but the "edge" was about 1/32" flat. Wouldn't cut anything and certainly not "super sharp" as the package stated. Had to start with a file to get the edge thin enough to use a sharpener and work the edge to something useful. The steel isn't very good so the resulting edge will function OK but is nothing special.I think they have a quality control issue on the sharpening process. The handle is good. Very comfortable and good size.I'll keep it, but would probably recommend something heavier for serious bushwacking.
