These stones are in a league of their own!
I’ve tried many other wet stones and the grit doesn’t match number printed on the side,.. I Had to go by feel,.. hours and hours trying for a polished , flat chisel back… As soon as I started working with these stones I got the Rob Cosman results first try,… if you want perfect polished edges ,.. these stones are the only way to go and I suggest everyone watch Rob Cosman on you tube,.. 32 seconds to sharp and sharpening in the real world… he says you can get by with the trend diamond 1000 and the Shapton 8000,.. which is true ,.. but you’ll spend hell of a time getting the 1000 scratches out with just 8000 shapton.. the 4000 intermediate saves so much time and will also save your 8000. This is the first time ever I have edges that will shave and I’ve been sharpening for about a year now…

Shapton ceramic stones are the BEST sharpening tool in my shop!
This 4000-grit Shapton stone is the perfect intermediary between my diamond stones and my 8000-grit Shapton. Because I work with micro bevels on all my plane and chisel irons, this stone gets me from mild scratches to shiny-sharp and smooth in about 30 seconds. Follow up with 10 - 20 seconds on the 8000 stone, and my tools are mirror perfect and crazy sharp. I never touch my Matsumura chisels with a machine-based sharpener! One minute per iron with Shapton ceramic stones and I’m ready to go to work!

Great polishing stone
Very consistent grit size. I use it to polish my knifes after a 2000 grit shapton stone. It give my knife a mirror polish with razor sharp edge.

Great maintenance stone
Already sharpened your knives with a Shapton Pro or glass 1000 or a Shapton Pro 2000? This stone is great for a final edge that cuts beautifully, and also works well for maintenance without removing too much steel if you like sharpening your knives often. Cuts quickly for it's grit level. Finished with a 1um diamond spray on a strop, I couldn't ask for sharper knives.

One to Rule them all
8k grit is a bit too fine and 3k is a bit too coarse. Both do an excellent job getting your knives super sharp. However, if you want a simple jack of all trades, the 4k is perfect. You can quickly get a hair whittling sharp edge with very little effort.

I like it!
Fast & easy use if you have good technique. Like other SG stones- very little feedback-thus the need for skill. Great stone to finish my workhorse knives on. Lost a star due to height- not sure about longevity yet-but prob fine.

Great stones these are!
I am not an expert at sharpening, am just learning. I have the 1k, this one (4k), and the 16k. Used on a harder steel knife recently (I added an 8k in between the 4 and 16 and stropped with compound / polished with leather after). Cut beautifully, feels great, makes razor sharp edges. I like these a lot and plan to gt the 8k to replace my other 8k shapton.

Professional Mirror Finish
I bought this stone as part of my kit for sharpening my kitchen knives and small collection of folding knives (320 grit Shapton Kuromaku, and 1000 grit Shapton Glass). It had no problems handling hard steel as CPM S30V, it added a professional mirror finish and extra smooth sharp edge to my knives. They knives glide with ease on paper and tomatoes. My new Shapton stones are now replacing my Lansky and KME systems.
