Simple way to get clean water.
We've been using this UV filter for 4 months now with no issues. It has been sterilizing our catchment water and providing clean water for the entire house. We try to make sure our system keeps the flow rate below about 10 GPM. We haven't tested our water in a lab, but numerous people have used our house water and there hasn't been any problems. It was easy to mount, plumb and put into service. I set it up with 2 union fittings so I can easily unclip it from the wall to change the UV bulb when it fails.

Cheap Crap!!
In 2009 - I bought my Watts 270156 12-GPM 1-Inch 110-Volt UV Disinfection System - and in less then a year the power adopter is already dead. Not only is it very hard to find a replacement power adopter online and they are very expensive - but also when you contact the manufacturer they take a few months to reply to you. Try getting a replacement adopter for this unit.. its probably easier to fly to China and buy it directly there. Never buy another WATTS!2017 Update after replacing 2 power adopters now again cheap substandard power adopter fails and again it is hard to find a replacement.Fyi you should consider this when purchasing this uv filter that you will most likely need to buy a new power adopter every 3 years for the rest of your life.

Watts is the best.
I bought two of these. One for each of my houses. A very good product and 40% the price of the local store. Easy to install and a must if you want to drink your catchment water. Catchment is the #1 way we get our water in east Hawaii and it can contain bacteria and things like Leptospirosis. Which will make you very sick. The UV light kills all these bacteria and more. And you should replace the bulb once a year.

Did not last two years
So far so good after a few months. My bulb and housing came unbroken.UPDATE after 1.7 years:The black transformer "UV-6" that comes with the system blew, and killed the bulb in the process.REPLACEMENT POWER SUPPLY:The cheapest and best replacement I have found is not to buy the one that came with it. Get this fluorescent ballast: https://www.amazon.com/Fulham-10076-WH33-120-L-WorkHorse-Ballast/dp/B001P24VQGIt powers the bulb (https://www.amazon.com/LSE-Lighting-GPH843T5L-LS-40W-Ultraviolet-40-watt-UVC-Lamp/dp/B01H61IPZ2/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_txt?ie=UTF8). You'll need to follow wiring diagram #14, found on the Fulham website.

Crystal tube very fragile
The first package arrived damaged and the crystal tube was broken. Unfortunately I had already shut off my water and re-plumbed everything for the UV system, before I discovered the broken crystal. Was able to exchange it quickly and the second one arrived undamaged. The packaging for this is poor. The metal tube that holds everything is heavy and it is shipped in the same box as the bulb and the crystal tube. The only padding on the bulb and the crystal tube is a foam sleeve. Nothing stops the metal tube from banging against these during shipping. There should be warning labels all over it and there isn't.When I tried to install the water system for the second time I knew this time to plumb in a shut off valve with a bypass so that I didn't have to shut off the water to the whole house in case it didn't work the second time or for future repairs or replacement. When I VERY gently put it all together all was well until I slid the bulb into place. The weight of the bulb cracked the crystal. The crystal is definitely the weakest part of this system. It is EXTREMELY thin and fragile.I don't think I would buy this product again, too delicate. The hassle of re-plumbing everything not once but twice and then to have the crystal break again is just not worth it to me. I did re-order another crystal, not much choice at this point. I read the other reviews about it being fragile and thought I would take my chances and really wish I hadn't.*Update: Third times the charm, finally got it installed and working. I do notice the improvement in taste in our water and feel confident our water is pure. But if I had to do it again I still would buy another kind.

I do not really suspect my well water is microbiologically foul. But this seems to be reasonable insurance
Installed without a hitch (yup, actually read the instructions). No leaks. Per the documentation, the green light on the power supply supposedly tells me the UV lamp is working as expected. I chose to mount the unit horizontally and with the inlet and outlet ports facing down. Since I'm connecting to PVC, I included a drain valve on both sides, so when I replace the lamp and clean the quartz sleeve, I won't dump water on the floor.I do not really suspect my well water is microbiologically foul. But this seems to be reasonable insurance. This UV lamp replaces a sodium hypochlorite (bleach) injection system I had in place for several years. However, I already appreciate that I no longer have to work with a hazardous chemical.

WATTs falling down
I purchased this unit in October 2014 and by November 2015, the ballast failed and the alarm stays permanently on. The ballast should have a reset button, but according to tech support it should automatically reset when unplugged and plugged back in. I was informed that the warranty on such equipment was only one year and 13 months later it failed. The instructions for this are terrible, the tech support is even less helpful. I have purchased many WATTs products and this is a disappointment.Update on 11/30/17 -- Ballast failed second time and alarm will not reset. Technical support is bumbling idiots-- it is almost comical dealing with these guys, but feel sad may be more accurate.
