An Interesting, Exciting, and Useful "Conversational" Presentation of the Divine Names
"The Name and the Named" was a wonderful read and, even more, will continue to be a great resources for a long time. First, the presentation is both interesting (wasting no space or time to get to the point of things) and beautiful. Each Name is both in English and a very pretty and artfully designed Arabic script. There are extra images throughout the book illustrating "intersections" between the Divine Names; sometimes these are complementary combinations, other times they intend to balance things out by presenting seemingly opposed Names.Second, the information in the book strikes the rare but highly appreciated balance between density of information and ease of reading. I did not find myself struggling with Shaykh Tosun's writing even once, while the information present is of such a depth as to require lengthy meditation. His "conversational" style, if I might call it such, allows the reader to feel the sense of receiving a great teaching from a great teacher, something that few books tend to disseminate so well. All in all, "The Name and the Named" works best, in my estimation, as a sort of sacred devotional. Read it slowly, with great attention, and allow each Name to work on your heart. In time one's eyes will begin seeing the work of these Names in each thing and every action. More than worth the read!

Beautiful and Inspiring
I'm currently reading this book...and I highly recommend it. A simplistic and inspiring reading it is.What this book is about: The significance of each of the 99 names of Allah swt. This book goes a step beyond a mere definition, but rather expounds on how each name is an attribute of Allah and thereby a reflection on to us. Prophet Adam was first taught and bestowed upon all of Allah's names. We, as Prophet Adam's descendants, are an image of Allah swt's attributes. Knowing each of the Names helps us to learn ourselves. It is said in the Quran Majeed that our purpose of our lives here on earth is to KNOW/WORSHIP/SERVE (synonyms in the Arabic term) Allah swt - and to know ourselves is to know Allah swt through His names since we reflect those 99 attributes. Gives new meaning to the 'God-within'. We, as human beings, are limited in our faculties. Repeating and remembering (dhikr) an attribute 'activates' and enhances that quality from within since we are attuning to that specific name of Allah swt's - and thus balancing and healing our souls.

Wonderful
Wonderful book for anyone looking for explanation of the Holy names through a compilation from the great Sheikhs and Hadiths, including Hadith's of Rasul Al-Mustafa (SAWS) and Hazret Geylani (QAS). All the books I've read from Sheikh Tosun have always been so beautiful, mashaAllah.

Beyond what words can describe
This book is amazing for all levels of faith. For those who are God conscious, this book allows you to reflect on the many ways our creator impacts us and the things around us. Despite the good and bad around us, the many names that are given to God allow us to get to know him and relect on its meanings. This book gives one a clear, concise, yet dynamic impact into the many personalities of our lord and creator. It also allows one to reflect on your own personal relationship with God and allows you to appreciate the diversity of how one chooses to have a relationship with it's creator. A must have book for one who is trying to discover having a relationahip with God. How can you love and appreciate something that you know nothing about? Isn't that blind following?

Good
Didn't like statements such as "recite ya dharr, ya nafi 100 times during the nights of Fridays [...] still better on the 13th, 14th, 15th of the lunar months" a claim like this has no authenticity. Overall, the names are explained well.
