Koyo 30206JR Tapered Roller Bearing

I purchased two Koyo 30206JR Tapered Roller Bearing to replace the OEM bearings in my Grizzly #8688 Mini Lathe. The nylon transmission gears were in need of replacement in my lathe and to do what might be thought of as a simple task, since these plastic gears are known to fail, actually is quire a project as the lathe has to be almost completely disassembled. I replaced the plastic gears with metal transmission gears and to do this the bearings have to be removed from the shaft. As long as the lathe is apart it made sense to replace the bearings with a better quality and tapered bearings as well. The Koyo bearings fit the bill. If you attempt this task I definitely recommend a hydraulic press to press off the old bearings and press on the new bearings; trying to beat the bearings on and off with a hammer is not the best idea.

I put these in a 7x siege lathe and they work greatway smoother and quieter then the stock ball bearings. I don't know if they are any more or less acurate I don't make parts for nasa. the finish seems better but that could just be me. definitely worth the price and the effort to install them.

I have had these bearing in my Sillette Marine drive leg for 13 years. Had water not had gotten in the housing they would still be running strong. Only replacing them because water oxidized them a bit.
