Harmony Fishing - Razor Series Weighted Swimbait Hooks (5 Pack)

I use pretty much ONLY soft plastics for striped bass fishing in salt water here on Cape Cod (95% Hogy products) and these caught my eye for use with 7" soft baits. I have used the Owner hooks with molded-on weight on the hook shaft and a screw-in "spring" attached to the eye of the hook and have been generally pleased with them. Unfortunately they have gotten very, very expensive lately so I though I'd give these a try. Ordered two 5-packs in 5/0 size, 1/4 ounce weight. The first thing I noticed was the gap is MUCH wider than the Owners, which I feel is somewhat detrimental in terms of the fish being able to see the curved shaft of the hook w/weight below the soft bait. But I also know some people feel a deeper gap like that is an advantage in terms of a more positive hook-up ratio. The overall look of the hooks is very good; I'm not sure of the grade or type of metal that is used to make the hook but they came out of the package needing no touch-up with a hook sharpener and they are black in color. The weight seems to be MUCH more solidly attached compared to the Owner and shaped so it goes through the water smoothly. I only caught a few small stripers when using the hook last week so I can't speak to the overall strength of the hook without bending. These do require a bit more exact placement of where the point will emerge from the top of the soft bait to ensure the soft bait is straight and not bent. And the weight (listed as 1/4 ounce) seems heavier than that. This may or may not be a good thing relative to how deep you want your bait to run. The twist-lock "spring" is robust and is close to the Owner hooks of this type in terms of ease of threading it into the head of the soft bait. The jury is still out for me but I will most likely buy more in other sizes as long as Owner's prices are crazy high right now and these hooks look like a relative bargain compared to the Owner version. I will be very, very interested to find out their longevity (resistance to rusting) and overall strength without bending when I do connect with a 20+-pound striper!
