Q: what size cartridges does this printer use

Black is hp 56, standard tri color is 57

Q: When I click on page preview, it says that I did not choose a printer. No printing.

You may have to re-install the software. If you own a newer PC with Window 7 or 8, you may have to check with HP to see if they have a patch to download that will work with your newer Windows version.

Q: What do i do? "check ink cartridge" light error keeps on popping up? already tried cleaning the cartridges n base. did something electronically break?

Problem could be more than one, 1 could be electronics not properly syncing with ink cartridge. 2 could be ink cartridge if you use after market brand or refilled, (some not all). 3 could be software problem, or printer could be going out. I bought mine new at radio Shack and have had similar problems over the years . mine were software, changeover to new operating system, new software not compatible completely, ink cartridge problems. But mine is still going strong.
