Manufacturer's Description Polar RCX5 GPS Training Computer - For triathletes, runners, cyclists and endurance athletes who want to optimise their training. Key features: Customisable Training View Speed/pace and distance Speed (km/h or mi/h) is measured with GPS, footpod, stride sensor or cycling speed sensor. Pace (expressed as min/km or min/mile) stands for the rate of speed. Pace is usually used in running. By setting a target pace, you can follow how fast you need to run in order to reach a certain distance in a predefined time. You can define your target zones for a training session based on speed. When you are out of the preset zones, the training computer will give a visual and audible alarm. Race Pace Race Pace allows you to set a target speed/pace for a certain distance. It then helps pacing the run or ride by showing the current speed/pace and by telling in time, how much you are behind or ahead of the set target. ZoneOptimizer ZoneOptimizer Adjusts personal sport zones for every training session based on your current physiological condition. This feature gives you the right heart rate zones depending on your physiological state at that exact moment, making sure that the you are always training at the right intensity. Polar Fitness Test Polar Fitness Test measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes. The result, Polar OwnIndex, evaluates your maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). With the Polar Fitness Test you can measure your aerobic fitness by yourself, automatically and without any exertion. All you need is your training computer. The Polar Fitness Test is as accurate in predicting the VO2max as any sub maximal fitness test. The test is based on heart rate and heart rate variability at rest and personal information. The Polar Fitness Test comparison table can be found in polarpersonaltrainer.com Hybrid Transmitter Gives heart rate even in water with comfortable and disturbance-free hybrid transmitter. Sport Profiles Provide true multisport support with a swift switch between different sports during training. This feature allows the training computer to modify all sport-specific settings and detect the needed sensors automatically, so you will not lose any time or training data. With just a few button presses, you can change from one sport to another, for example in triathlon. Running index table Running Index Running Index is based on heart rate and speed data measured during the run. It gives daily information about your performance level, both aerobic fitness and running economy. Improvement in running efficiency indicates improved economy of running performance. Running Index offers an easy way to monitor performance changes. It is based on heart rate and speed data measured during a running session. How fast/easily you run at a given pace is directly influenced by aerobic fitness (VO2max) and how efficient your body is at running. Running Index is a measurement of this influence. Monitor your progress by recording Running Index over time. Improvement means that running at a given pace requires less of an effort, or that your pace is faster at a given level of exertion. Running Index also gives you daily information on your running performance level which may vary from day to day. E.g. your value 50 means that your running performance level is Average. Your Running Index is most meaningful when following the changes in your individual values over time. polarpersonaltrainer.com with mapping Click here for a larger image The polarpersonaltrainer.com Web Service The polarpersonaltrainer.com web service offers complete endurance training programmes for running and cycling, including warm-up, work and cool-down phases for every session. Heart rate is individual and changes according to your exercise. The transmitter measures and sends the heart rate information to the watch unit and the watch unit displays the heart rate and exercise information. Put simply a heart rate monitor shows you how hard you are working. "Put simply, regularly monitoring your heart rate is the best way to tell how effective your exercise is. I use a Polar heart rate monitor to keep track of how hard I'm working during every training session, but you don't have to be a professional to feel the benefits of heart rate monitoring. I would recommend anyone, no matter how much or little they exercise, to wear a heart rate monitor when working out. It can give motivation by providing targeted workout zones according to your personal fitness level, to ensure you're always training at the right level for you and your body. And by showing you how hard you're working throughout exercise sessions, heart rate monitoring can help you to achieve your fitness or weight loss goals quicker and often with less effort than you think." Glad I switched to Polar
I have a Garmin 210 GPS sportswatch, HRM and Footpod. I bought the Polar RCX5 to replace the Garmin for two reasons. 1. The Garmin clip to connect to a PC/Mac is hit and miss (see their support forum - they admit it). I also wanted more information on my exercise metrics.Unlike other GPS watches this has a separate GPS module. SOme people may not like this, but I do - it gives the watch a 11 month life on a single battery. The GPS module battery (rechargeable) last around 20 hours. Most combined GPS watches get between 8-20hours, not great for ultras, etc.In conjunction with the Polar personal training website, this watch offers a ming boggling number of useful fitness metrics and has a learning curve. You can create training programs/plans on the website, sync to the watch and then follow them - much better than the Garmin products. No problems with crashing, or synching with my Macbook Pro - unlike my old Garmin 210. Yes it is expensive and Polar do some cheaper models, but if you wan a full blown fitness computer with great battery life, this is the one.

Solid, reilable sports watch
I've actually owned this for over four years now in conjunction with GPS and heart sensors. It's been very reliable (still original strap too) unlike recent purchase of a Fitbit Charge HR which has fallen apart each time within a few months. Quick to gain GPS signal. Good basic data for a runner and works well using the Polar app - polarpersonaltrainer - to review and save your data. Screen could be clearer in bright sunshine and have larger figures, as I normally wear glasses but don't run with them.Still available new to buy on Amazon which must mean its been successful for Polar or it would have long since been superseded.Have a some issues with the dongle working on my PC but more to do with PC I think than dongle/software as works perfectly on my laptop.

Amazing
I was reluctant to get this seeing as the GPS is not in-built. However I was attracted by the functions and the fact it would not be a huge on my wrist. I made the right choice. The GPS works very well and usually connects quickly. It can also be used in the gym and when swimming to record heart rate and time. It is very easy to use and the the software on your computer is easy to use and read and understand the data. It is also great as a wrist watch with dual time and two alarms. Highly recommended.

Good and fast delivery
I was kind of worried before the purchase due to the reviews where people have recieved 2nd hand equipment instead of brand new, as per their order. However, mine was recieved in a brand new condition. Items in the box were loose, but I guess that was due to the transportation.Need to mention that was very hard to find the option of the fast delivery by amazon. Amazon should give straight forward option for delivery preference (normal, fast, urgent) upon purchase.Nevertheless, the Amazon team were of a great assistance and helped through e-mail.Product is good so far, though I am still learning about it.

Best training watch
It has everything that I read in the specifications area, I bought it together with the GPS sensor and it does everything that I need to train accurate. I have the HRM to, which helps me see how tired I am after a training session, if I can do better and if I need to try harder next time. I am using it for cycling and next summer I want to try it for swimming but I didn't find out if I can use the GPS sensor in the water, in the armband.

POLAR Quality: Multi-functions for Multi-sport Performers
Great monitor for multi-sport performers and as a educating aid. I love the data produced on Polar flow system post workout, especially when I synced with the G5 GPS sensor. I utilise the output data for personal tracking and in class during lecturer. This is my 5th Polar monitor and the best one yet...Highly recommend!
