Good and looks brand new.

Classic funny movie

I saw this movie years ago and recalled it has having some funny gags in it. Recently I bought the western classic The Magnificent Seven and looking at the story noticed a familiar plot. It turns out Three Amigos is a very close comedy re-make of Magnificent Seven (which is a western re-make of The Seven Samurai). To really understand what is going on viewers should first watch Magnificent Seven, which is a really GREAT movie. Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Eli Wallach and all the rest make this a western even the ladies will be absorbed by. Horst Bucholtz plays the kid (#7 of the seven) and his part is spoofed in Three Amigos buy the "German" bi-plane pilot (Why do we have Germans in a western?). Only after experiencing M7 can the viewer actually fully understand all the details that went into crafting 3A's. The musical score for Three Amigos was done by Elmer Bernstein, who also did the original score (and was nominated for an Academy Award for) The Magnificent Seven. Put both of these films together for a really enjoyable evening of entertainment.

Not interested

Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short—three comedy titans—ride into this flick like a posse of wild banditos on a bender, guns blazin’ with one-liners so sharp they’d cut El Guapo’s mustache clean off! These Hollywood clowns think they’re just playin’ dress-up as cowboy stars, but BAM—they’re knee-deep in a Mexican dust-storm of real bullets, real bad dudes, and a whole lotta ‘What the hell did we sign up for?!’ The script? Pure gold, like findin’ a treasure map in a tortilla! It’s absurd, it’s chaotic, it’s got more heart than a saloon full of weepy drunks singin’ ballads. The costumes? Flashier than a peacock on parade. Hard-core fans know this ain’t just a movie—it’s a freakin’ showdown of laughs, a wild west fever dream where every scene’s a shot of whiskey chased with a cactus kick. I’ve watched this flick so many times, and I’d still trade my VCR for a chance to ride with these three lunatics. Three Amigos is a cult classic that’d make John Wayne trade his spurs for a dance number—pure, unhinged, movie-mad glory!

Good movie

This is what comedy entertainment is all about! It may even rank as the funniest movie I've ever seen. It just has a ton of laughs, start-to-finish, and without a lot of the raunch of today's comedy films. Not only does the dialog produce numerous laugh-out-loud scenes but so do all the sight gags, and there are plenty of those. The funniest characters in the film are the villains, led by "El Guapo," played by Alfonso Arau. He is almost indescribable. All he has to do is open his mouth and show his bad teeth and then give his huge smile and I crack up every time. The three leads - played by Steve Martin, Matin Short and Chevy Chase - are all excellent and in the primes of their careers. The film also is directed by John Landis, who has a knack for directing extremely entertaining movies. This film was written by Martin, Lorne Michaels of "Saturday Night Live," and songwriter Randy Newman. Kudos to all of them for a job well done. In addition to the great comedy, decent language and color characters both good guys and bad guys, was the beautiful cinematography. There is a very colorful-looking film and looks outstanding on DVD. The only thing better would be a sharp Blu-Ray transfer.
